Commercial Description:
Our Extra-Special Bitter is one of our most prestigious offerings, brewed in tribute to the founder of micro-brewing in these parts - our master brewer. Brewed with all imported ingredients, our ESB is big brother to our Pale Ale and was the first that we cask-conditioned.

Orange color with a white head. Bitter hop flavor with some malts. Finish is bitter and dry. Pretty good and drinkable

On tap: Amber hue with a small frothy head and some lace. Aroma hints of fruit (cherry and apple), aromatic hops, hint of pine, and nutty malts. The taste had a real nice fruity character with good balance of malts and traditional hops. Mild bitter finish with a buttery and creamy mouthfeel, a touch dry. This is a top-notch ESB, easy to drink yet complex enough for the beergeek.

Orange golden. Thinnish head. Hoppy nose is slightly fruity. Medium bodied. Semi-sweet with a rather harsh earthy/piney bitterness. Pretty decent but not the best Barley's has to offer.

Orangish brown color, medium head. Nice consistency and good lacing. Great strong flavor with a hint of sweetness.

Tasted at Barley's 4th Annual Robert Burns Dinner & Robert Burns Scottish Export Ale Tapping Jan 25th. Named after the brewmaster at Barley's Smokehouse, you have to be pretty sure of the quality of something to name it after yourself. This is a very good ESB. Dark orangish-brown with a medium off-white head and some lacing. Aroma of floral hops with a little sweet malt thrown in for balance. Flavor is nicely bitter with a great sweet touch at the end. I'm sorry I went so long without trying this.

1/25/03 tap. ok, maybe i will have to re- rate this because i have been at Barleys fourth annual Robert Burns dinner and scottish export ale tapping and i seem to have been tapped! however, i really like this beer (the ESB), nice color which is a great orange to brown color. wonderful amount of lacing and the taste is extraordinary. must regroup and re-rate in the morning.

A nice deep orange with a decent white head from the tower. The aroma is of noble english hops and the flavor backs that up. An excellent combination of bitterness and specialty malts that finishes slightly sweet. A very good ESB.
