Eyedrinkale (3111), Beer Town, New York, USA Apr 27, 2008 Growler. Nice roastiness from the coffee right up front but the problem I have with this stout is the body is just too thin for the coffee to stand ip to it. Throw in the milkiness and all I have here is dark coffee water.
OhioDad (2492), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Mar 9, 2006 Draught at smokehouse.. Poured black with a good size tan head that stayed pretty well and laced some on the sides of the glass. Aromas of coffee, and a touch of hops. Nice full flavor coffee, a touch of chocolate, and roasted malts. Palate was meduim bodied and smooth and creamy on the tongue. A nice drinkable stout and a good compliment to the pulled chicken sandwich.. jonwell (104), Huntington Beach, California, USA Dec 4, 2004 Decent coffee stout... beer is heavy enough overall to counter the coffe bitterness. Kona coffee is always nice. Hoppy as well. Remembering from Strong Ale with no notes, so I won’t write much, hehe. edden (924), cow- lumbus, Ohio, USA Aug 3, 2004 7/10/04: Barleys Smokehouse. Very opaque black body with a minimal head. Nose of coffee and malt. Quick notes of coffee upfront- but the coffee flavor leaves very quickly. Other flavors include malt and Novocain. My tongue felt numb after a few sips. Barley’s has great beer; this is not one of them. The recipe for this beer needs worked out a bit more. ultraspank (856), Dublin, Ohio, USA Jul 21, 2004 Had this on tap at the Smokehouse Saturday night prior to seeing the Crew play for the first time. Light nose of caramel and coffee. Pours a dark walnut. Though I requested a head from my server, I was served sans the bubbles; but I noticed a tall frothy light brown head when a few of my buddies split one upon dividing pour. No lacing was visible in any of the glasses. The flavor has great hints of chickory coffee and is very even keeled with a subtle finish. The full and dry body is very lively with an astringent feel to the finish.
