Bottle. Big disappointment on top of a Bobby Dazzler; squashy chestnut with a swirl of beige, obvious malt loaf, muscovado and aniseed aroma like Highgate blended with Kasteel Donker. Faint shrubby hop behind the sugar; blackcurrant rub of hop cone, Demerara sweetness, chocolate coated caramel and raisin, liquorice and soap. Bitterness like swallowed seawater, digestives aftertaste. Kasteel shandy. Won me over a bit.

Bottle, from Rhythm & Booze in Barton upon Humber. Deep chestnut red, thin off white head and low condition. Pleasantly malty sweet nose with hints of roastiness and some chocolate, plus a smattering of woody earthiness. Full and quite bitter in the mouth with a little powdery chalkiness and low roasted barley notes, earthiness returns in the finish but still predominatly bitter to the end
