Merritt Island Throwdown ’08: Bottle, courtesy jayg. Pours a hazy amber with a small white head. A light smoky bacon aroma. Very light smoke malt body that drink like a good pilsner. Wasn’t knocked out by it.

Bottle, Merritt Is. Throwdown. Orange-gold with white film. Diacetyl and sour aromas along with some sour smokiness. Flavors are strongly smoky but diacetyl and sour stand out to me.

Bottle. Good meaty smoke with sweet fruit notes. Orange color with a nice head. Mild smoke flavor, some teriyaki, overall really well balanced. A touch thin but pretty good smoothness.

Light amber with medium head. Aroma is smoke that warms you up for the smokey bacon taste that is the obvious focus here. It doesn’t overwhelm and remains quite smooth and drinkable. A bit sweet in the finish. Not as fully smokey as the classics, but more drinkable for the average person.

Courtesy JMFG. POurs a lightly hazy amber copper colro, with a swirly light white head. Smells of light smoke and caramel malt, with some dark fruit backing them up as well. The flavor was a little more smoky than the nose, but not overly so. Some molasses and caramel seemed to round out its flavors, along with a touch of dark fruit in the finish. Not a big smoke beer, but one with good balance.

Bottle... GIABMISGFAB... Clear golden lager with a large, frothy, off-white head. Nice beechwood smoke aroma with undertones of biscuit and toffee. Light to medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Moderately sweet amber and pale malts with low bitterness. Thin and watery, but nice smoked flavor. Short, watery finish. Kudos to jayg for providing this rauchbier!

From a 22-oz. bottle purchased at By The Bottle in Vancouver, WA--Poured a deep copper-amber body with a fluffy white head. Nice earthy smoky nose and body. Crisp, creamy, and sharp. Very nice.

Merritt Island Throwdown ’08: Bottle, courtesy jayg. Pours a hazy copper color, with a slim ring of foamy head. Beads of lacing on the glass. Hoppy smokiness is all that can really describe the aroma. Smoke is prevalent in the flavor, but feels artificial; like liquid smoke was added. Decent malt character, but flooded with hops. Light-bodied, easy to drink, but just doesn’t feel real faithful to the style, and simply not that great overall.
