Commercial Description:
The Baron Schwarzbier is a classic German black beer.  The color is black with tinges of ruby and brown.  The flavor is full and crisp.  The Schwarzbier starts with a slight roast flavor upfront followed by a faint chocolate body with a very crisp clean lagered finish.  A very full yet drinkable lager.

One of my favorite styles in the fact that they have a lot of character with a very smooth and light body so you don’t get full after a pint, and this was pretty well done. Creamy on the palate with a roasty chocolate malt flavor and hints of melted caramel. Slight smoked character in the finish. Pours dark brown with a small khaki head.

(Draught) Sampled at the Great Canadian Beer Festival 2007 in Victoria on September 8th, 2007. Lasting white creamy head with a deep brown. Again, the spicy yeast. Interesting stuff. Brown malt, wet wheat. Somewhat lacking the malt for a Schwarzbier?

6/30/07 On Draught at the Seattle International Beerfest. Aroma is malty with smoke, caramel and butterscotch notes. Appearance is dark brown with an off-white head. Flavor is sweet malt forward followed by red fruit notes and candy flavors. Mouthfeel is medium/light bodied with good carb texture for being such a low bite. Overall, an enjoyable light bodied beer that’s very easy drinking.

Body is black with brown edges, thin light tan head. Aroma is lightly smokey, licorice, roasted malts, with a little bit of coffee. Taste is lightly roasted, some caramel, some hazelnut to it also. Could be fuller, but a good beer.

Bottle: Dark mahogany, nice head and lacing. Nose of peanut shells and light roast, some caramel in the flavor. Nutty and roasty, nice smooth finish. A bit lacking in the roast department but plenty nutty and still tasty.

Spunky chocolate aroma with some fruit. Deep reddish amber in color, very little head (I want my schwarzies to be a little blacker). Slightly fruity flavor, some chocolate, noble hops and residual roastiness. Fairly clean. Kind of like a lager brown ale. Cheers to André.
