Commercial Description:
Brewed for Barons Brewing by AIB

The first beer released is the Wattle Seed Ale, which starts with a blend of Australian and European malts, creating a rich flavour base of caramel with a hint of chocolate. The smooth malt flavours are lightly hopped and then infused with roasted Wattle Seed, bringing a unique and authentic Australian flavour to this fine red ale. The result is an outstanding ale that boasts a smooth taste profile balancing its robust character, an ultimately rewarding yet distinctive beer.

Pours a two finger cream head that fades slowly, leaving some lace. Nice clear amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Sweet ? nose. Flavor is caramel and nutty, I have no idea what wattle tastes like. $1.83 for a 330ml bottle from Manchester Wine and Liquors Manchester, CT

Bottle. Earthy floral nose, malty with strong toast and light caramel, a husky accent but I’ve no experience to call this wattle. I would compare to a chunk of thick multigrain bread. Deep amber pour with a lacing tan head. Taste is burnt, obliquely toasty, light fruity malt undertones in the English ale tradition but with plum and grape highlights. A little pepper and nice, leafy flowers. Medium body is malty and really pleasant. A dryish feel like that of juniper beers. Nice change of pace, really did enjoy!

Bottle. Was given this free by nice bartender since "everyone else was complaining about it" and I was brave enough to try it. Interesting. Silky sweet mouthfeel. No hops presence at all. Deep red-brown, minimal head. Low carbonation. Easy drinker and despite the weirdness, I actually enjoyed it.

bottle, slightly darker than an amber ale, nose and flavors are nutty, woody, malts with some dark roast character as well, better than expected

This wasn’t a bad beer, however there was something that stood out with me that I could not place, maybe it was the wattle seed. It was almost like a graininess, maybe an odd spiciness. It was definately unique. Otherwise, this is just an amber ale with a slight twist with the wattle. Nothing really grat here, but an interesting beer nonetheless. Worthy of trying but not drinking over and over.

Bottle shared by durhambeer - thanks, Bob! Fruity, dark orange, with a modest head. I confess to not knowing what watte seed was prior to reading about the beer I’d aready consumed. But my taste told me that this was an average red ale with sweet malts and a trace of sour mixed in with some chocoate, honey, and nut flavors.
