RblWthACoz (959), Brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 3, 2008 Pours a foggy amber. Minimal head really. Nose is slight nut and a bit earthy. Flavor is deep and robust. Best when it’s warmed up a bit. Nutty, earthy, and full. Feel is smooth on liquid with a good carbonation. Overall this is a pretty decent brew. A bit deep, which I think is fine. Definitely worth trying, but make sure you try it at a warmer temperature. Rizzo (11), Australia May 2, 2007 Had this in the bottle and on draught. Much better on tap (this rating). Big fluffy cream head on hazy light amber beer. Good malt aroma, high gravity finish (big body), all mouth bitterness. Aurelius (2507), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 9, 2007 Updated: Aug 11, 2007Nicely hoppy aroma, with yeast and tannins. Very much in the English style. Moderately tannic, moderately hoppy, some potato flavors, a light spice, dry caramel. Great packaging, foggy brownish-gold, big head. Finishes with some stewed fruit and sourness. Pretty drinkable. Rerate: This beer really grew on me as I worked my way through the six over a couple of days. It’s imperative that you let the brew warm - the malting really comes through when it’s not ice cold. Very servicable, and very true to style. PorterPounder (2852), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 24, 2007 Medium orange pour, soft off-white head - slightly hazy. Pleasant aroma, some faint fruitness to it and a hint of yeast. Nice subtle bitterness wiht some faint citruds notes, some peaches, a dash of ground pepper. Just a touch of vanilla sweetness in the finish. Tangy mouthfeel. Like what I see from this brewer thus far. Thanks to Aurelius for saving this out of his six pack. hopscotch (4588), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Oct 28, 2007 Bottle... Hazy orange ale with a small, frothy, white head. Good retention. Regarding the aroma and flavor, the brewer’s description is pretty much dead-on, but I’ll give it a go. The nose offers lots of sweet caramel, sherry notes and fruity, toffee esters. The flavor is far more sweet than bitter, but that’s almost typical for an ESB. Like the aroma, there’s lots of caramel and sherry. Medium to full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Finishes vinous, fruity and lightly sweet. Unique ESB; odd, but interesting and tasty. A bigger beer than the ABV implies.
