A thin line between Double Dark IPA and American Stron Ale exists - Peanut at Dilly Deli describes that line best. Whatever you want to call it - this is a delicious brew with a nice hoppy complex and an above average alcohol presence and content. I believe that the aroma and the initial taste gives way to the malt backbone; whereas finish is dominated by that before mentioned hop complex. A good local brew. My full rec. ehhdayton (1113), USA

The nose is greeted with caramel, toffee, bread, and balanced with citrus and pine. Flavor is also balanced between the malt and the hops with a full rich finish. Aroma of caramel, various hops, nuts and toffee. Taste is hoppy with hints of caramel, toffee, nuts, bread dough and yeast. Nice brew. Sanchex (223), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jul 26, 2007 This is not a IIPA as indicated on the bottle. Very subdued hop aroma.. pineapple mostly. Looks great with it’s mahogany hue and creamy toffee tinted head. It’s got some bitterness there but nothing worthy of an IPA let alone IIPA. Very sweet and heavy on the tongue. Cloying finish. Cheers! EithCubes (2164), Indiana, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 26, 2007 Bottle. Aroma of caramel and faint bread, lychee and grapefruit hop notes clashing strangely. Good deal of malt and chocolate with a touch of bubblegum. Pours amber with a creamy tanned head. Taste is bitter with sharp fruitiness and ending bread as she dries out. Caramel and lychee, less grapefruit. Has some nice Arrogant Bastard notes, but generally, I am not sympathetic to this taste. Strange acidity and hopcit blends poorly with near cloy; medium body is lightly prickly and finishes a bit sticky. Lots of malt here, but again, not really my thing. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 16, 2007 Bottle shared with Steven, Rob, and Dan at Rob’s poker night. Pours a dark amber (almost brown) with a small, pillowy head that fades. Notes of brown sugar and piney hops. This was pretty tasty and easy drinking. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 3, 2007 I’m trying to figure out how this beer is considered an IPA. It’s Soooo dark and has a strong malty content with a roasty flavoring. The finish is smooth and hoppy, but this is certainly not your traditional IPA. Don’t get me wrong though......this is a solid tasting brew. By far the best beer I’ve had from barrel house.
