Commercial Description:
Early Cincinnati brewers shipping their beers into Tennessee would generously hop their beer to prevent spoilage during the long, arduous trip over the Cumberland Trail. It’s been said that few barrels ever actually made it into Tennessee, as they were traded away for coonskin caps or simply enjoyed along the way! This classic India Pale Ale is a somewhat fruity brew, with an aggressive hop finish. To the hopheads of the world: we’ve brewed this one for you!

bottle - Pours up a lightly hazy pale amber with a two finger, lingering head. The pleasant, hop dominated aroma has pine and citrus notes. Caramel malts are led by moderately strong hops in the flavor. A medium body and lively carbonation comprise the palate and the finish offers some more enjoyable bitterness. Nice session beer. (I don’t understand the commercial description here that says "India Pale Ale". It sure tastes like an APA to me.)

Pours a translucent golden copper with a medium size foamy/frothy off white head that left lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, nuts, some toasted grains, floral and nice citrus notes Flavor of caramel malt, some toastiness, nuts, mixed fruits, light hop bitterness and some oxidation.

22 oz bottle. Poured a clear orange color. Head was thick and off white with good retention and lacing. Smelled of steeping barley and light molasses. Slightly sweet on the tongue. Tasted of light malty caramel and flowery hops. Decent.

Bottle. Bittersweet grapefruit nose, lightly floral with lots of hops. Amber body with slow, medium carbonation and a rich, lacing, rocky beige head. Bittersweet taste, dries out and "breadies" itself with time. Light crispness from the hops only, slightly oily medium body. Sweetness swirls at the end. Caramel and citrus the leading flavors. Serviceable everyday pale.

The Dan Journal #81. Tasted 4/30/2007. 22oz bomber. Clear yet lively. Deep golden hue. Soapy white head. Citrus grapefruity orange nose. Touch cereal. Bright and medium bodied. Slightly sticky and off-dry. Big fruity initial flavors. Good balance. Fruity malts. Nice.

22oz bottle-pours a foamy retaining light tan head and hazy amber color. Aroma is medium malt-sweet caramel, pine. Taste is medium malt-sweet caramel, pine/citrus/floral-bitter hops. Malt is too dominant and sweet for a PA and seems like three quite different hop styles which didn’t work that well. OK carbonation.

From a 22 oz. bomber with no freshness date, blurbs on the left and right side of label, I like how they add info at the bottom of the label, sampled at cellar temperature in a imperial pint glass. Poured a clear orange, golden hued copper with a frothy, rocky white head that slowly settled into a thin creamy, sudsy lacing. For a APA. pretty clean nose, lightly citrus fruity, softly floral, with just traces of sweet maltiness. Good carbonation and a crisp, dry, smooth light bodied mouthfeel, your standard, average APA mouthfeel. Pleasant tasting, easy, quaffable drinkability, but I’m a afraid there hundreds, if not thousands of APA’s that are just like this, for me, average tasting overall, toasted grains, a bit sugary sweet, bare touches of caramel, citrus hops with a mild rind-like bitterness on the tongue, a soft butteriness towards the end, and a dry, grainy, citric finish. I met the owner/brewmaster at the Peoria International Beer Festival and he was an incredibly nice guy, very talkative about his beers and I loved his Boss Cox DIPA, so I really wanted to say this was outstanding, but for me, it was just your slightly above average APA, at a good cheap bomber price though, so I will be buying more of this in the future.
