Rating #7 for this beer.
. . . . . . . . . .

3/12/2008: Barrel House Doppelbock looks very dark chocolate brown in color with ruby tones. It has an ample tan-colored head that lasts the entire time and leaves some lacing on the glass. The rich, deeply caramelized aroma is inviting. There is roasted malt in the front of the flavor alont with some slight coffee. The caramelized maltiness gives way to a dry and roasty finish. This beer has a medium to medium-bull body. Overall this beer is robust and quite good.

Pint (draught) at Dilly Deli in Mariemont, Ohio. Rating: 7/4/7/3/13=3.7

3/07/2009: The quality of Barrel House beer has definitely taken a hit lately. The Barrel House Helles bock that I had was at least a full point worse than it was previously. In addition, I was terribly disappointed with this beer as it didn’t even taste any better than the Hudepohl Bock. The alcohol content might haven a slightly higher, but other than that, the deep brown caramel color, dense beige head, bready malty flavor, and smooth creamy body were nearly identical. Barrel House Doppelbock seemed to have a slightly more chocolate-like flavor, but that’s really about it. It’s really hard to support a local brewery when they are brewing sub-par beer!

Draught (pint) at Bockfest Hall during Bockfest 2009 in Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati, Ohio. Rating: 5/3/5/3/11=2.7

Draft. Aroma: Toasty/bready with some nice caramel. Very light fruitiness (grapes) as it warms. Appearance: Dark brown in color with small ruby highlights. Off-white head was full and foamy with good retention. Fair lacing. Flavor: Nice maltiness with notes of bread, caramel, and light nuttiness. Some grapey fruitiness. Finishes fairly clean. Palate: Mouthfeel doesn’t feel as full as it should. Moderate carbonation. Light alcohol warming in back of mouth. Overall: This was pretty good. Light mouthfeel and a lack of flavor depth would be my only complaints.

Draft: Dark brown colored pour with light brown head. Sweet, caramely, malty aroma. Roasted malts, slightly sweet finish. Not bad.

Draft in growler from Party Town, KY. Poured dark reddish brown with a moderate light brown frothy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Good caramel toasted tart fruit aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Good well balanced roasted bittersweet flavor with a moderate smooth balanced finish of moderate to long duration. Good doppelbock.

Draft from Fries Cafe. Retired? A thick dark malt body only makes this light caramel, wheat bready concochtion better. Not to bad.

Yes, this one is nice. Rich and high octane. They've brewed a variety of bock beers at Barrel House for the annual BockFest in Cincinnati. The alcohol laws in Ohio are making Barrel House's beers even more flavorful than before.

Only got one sip off a buddies glass. So I reserve the right to re-rate at a later date. They don't have this on tap for very long.
