Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Jul 22, 2009 Bottle. Pours an orange golden body with an explosive white head. Dusty dry apple aroma a hint of dried fruit and stale spice. A light sour grape note that probably should not be there but nevertheless its enjoyable. Once more into the bottle it feels more grainy, apple and moth like, a bit oxidized like the other 4 bottles i bought from these guys. Oh well what can ya do. sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 1, 2009 had this bottle from lexington, ky. it was on the sale section there, so my guess is it’s old. and boy did it taste off/old. really not much like any dortmunder i’ve had previously. this was super hazy amber orange color. that isn’t right, is it? aroma was pretty feety and a bit fruity/candyish. flavor was similar. it really wasn’t bad, but it was hardly what i was expecting. in someone else’s rating is "malt-bread caramel". i agree with that, too. KAggie97 (2406), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Feb 14, 2009 Bottle. Pours a thin amber with a cheese-hole head. Noisy body. Aroma is coppery peach and raisin. Flavor is grassy malt with a thin, light berry finish. Average moutheel. Probably an old bottle. JK (2944), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Nov 29, 2008 Good. My bottle may have been past its prime but the beer was still solid. Low alcohol, appropriate to the style. Light orange color and a thick, rocky, long-lasting head. Standard malt flavor, color is on the dark side for the style. A good beer. Trev (849), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Nov 17, 2008 poured a medium gold colour with a light white head.
Pale malt aroma, slightly grainy, apple and grassy hop.
Flavour was Good medium sweet malt body, some grassy bitterness and a light sweet fruity finish.
This beer grew on me and I found myself taking bigger and bigger quaffs as I went.
jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Sep 30, 2008 22oz bottle-pours a thin white head and gold color. Aroma is grain/light malt/bread-caramel, secondary grassy hops. Taste is grain/light malt/bread-caramel, secondary grassy/spice hops, some (off?) fruit/yeast notes. Thanks decaturstevo for picking this out. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Sep 30, 2008 Deep gold pour with hints of red. Gooey white head and lace. Lemony caramelly with just a hint of hops. Lemon flavor, semi sweet, with very little bitter. Full bodied but aggrssive carbonation. Citrus flavor and fizziness make me wonder if it was a tad past its prime. Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 16, 2008 In short: A amazingly drinkable fruity tart and almost wild (wtf?) blonde lager.
How: Bottle 22oz, drank very fresh a few days after purchase
The look: Partly cloudy blonde body topped by a medium white head
In long: Bready pils malts abound. Almost no sweetness flavour. Fruity flavours on the tart side of things with pineapples, lemon and such. I got some boiled eggwhite that somehow my palate gets from certain lager yeast strains. Medium strong acidic and tartness level. This beer is absurdly drinkable. An overall freshness sensation but also a certain “wilderness” that I’m not supposed to get from that type of beer but that was thoroughly enjoyable. That wild character and strong tartness for the style left me wondering if what I was drinking was the intended result or the pleasant outcome of a light bacterial infection. Just like with a Vietnamese prostitute the possible infection just didn’t hinder my enjoyment level.
