Commercial Description:
In the hill country of eastern Ohio lie the geological treasures of Old Man's Cave, Conkels Hollow, and Cantwell Cliffs. Our Hefeweizen is a tribute to the natural wonder of these places; an authentic German Weissbier. This delicious beer is unlike anything you've ever tasted before! Hints of clove, banana, and vanilla are some of the flavors produced by the special strain of yeast we use. Because the beer is unfiltered, it becomes cloudy when chilled, in the traditional German way.

On tap at the Oak Room in Athens, OH. Best color to describe this is saffron. Hazy, as expected, with a thin head and a very heavy wheat aroma. The wheat flavor (never a favorite of mine) cuts a clear swath through the rest of this beer’s flavors.

Appears a hazy gold with CO2 seen rising to the top before the yeasty remnants are poured into the tall weizen glass. A small, creamy head slowly fades into a 1/4" cap that never leaves. Scattered spots of lacing are left around the sides. Smell is of crisp wheat, lemony citrus, creamy vanilla custard, poached pairs, light banana, spice, and doughy yeast. Taste is of the aromas with a fresh bread character, light fruit, and citrus. The mouthfeel is super smooth, light-medium bodied with banana sweetness & vanilla, along with a clean yeast along the palate. Excellent carbonation along the tongue and roof of the mouth. This is an outstanding version of a Hefe brewed in the U.S. I happen to have another bottle, which I’ll savor for the appropriate time.

Sampled with Beerdrenched. Pours hazy orange / amber with a nice sized white head. The aroma has lots of banana esters, some citrus, light spice and white soda traits. Medium / light body with a lot of sharp prickly carbonation. the taste starts with banana meeting white soda - it is sweeter than most hefes. The aroma was like that of a hefe, the taste a cross between a hefe and American wheat & the body feels like an American wheat. The finish has bananas and spice. Just a middle of the road wheat beer.

22oz bottle-thanks to vyvvy for sharing this one. pours cloudy light orange with a small soapy white head. big banana ester on the nose with some dusty esters as well and a touch of lemon. banana all over the flavors, but thats about it for the complexity of this beer. pretty one-dimensional. palate is biting and has harsh carbonation. this is the major problem with this hefe. For an american Hefe, its not bad, but has tendencies towards an american wheat in its palate and lack of complexity.

22 oz bottle: Fantastic hazy light amber w/ a lasting of white head. Thin and weak banana and clove presence for a hefe, and also has a slightly smokey aroma. Clove is most predominant and also has hints of bubblegum. Big time wheat malt aroma. Well balanced flavor overall, finishes semi sweet, not crisp or dry, and only mildly acidic; Lots of wheat malt again in the flavor but with minimally spicy yeast presence. Very little esters from banana, bubblegum or vanilla, but does have a slight clove and smokey flavor in the aftertaste. Higher level of CO2, smooth, light bodied. Not as much flavor as the aroma would indicate or as I’d hoped, but not a bad version of a German classic.

Cloudy dark golden color with a full off-white head. Quite average looking as hefes go. Fairly clean aroma, with light wheat and yeast.Hints of cloves and green bananas. Decent nose, just not a big sniffer. Malt O Meal with a touch of citrus and spice. Light lemon zest comes mid quaff. while the wheat and pale malt stick through the entire journey. A mild sourdough flavor late sip that distracts slightly, but also dries things out. Sort of a welcome/unwelcome thing. Fairly decent domestic german hefe.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were and left behind a hazy with fine particulate strong bubbly carbonation dark orange brown colored body and a fair lacing. The nice aroma was banana and fruity. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a mellow hoppy aftertaste. The good flavor contained notes of malt fruity banana and yeast. A wonderful best in class brew.

22oz bottle acquired in trade with OhioDad (thanks!). Poured a medium and slightly cloudy golden color with a smaller sized white head. Aromas on the softer side and consisted of wheat, banana, and spices. Tastes of wheat, spices (stronger than the aroma), banana, and lemons.
