Commercial Description:
In the hill country of eastern Ohio lie the geological treasures of Old Man's Cave, Conkels Hollow, and Cantwell Cliffs. Our Hefeweizen is a tribute to the natural wonder of these places; an authentic German Weissbier. This delicious beer is unlike anything you've ever tasted before! Hints of clove, banana, and vanilla are some of the flavors produced by the special strain of yeast we use. Because the beer is unfiltered, it becomes cloudy when chilled, in the traditional German way.

Pour is a hazy yellow with a small fizzy head. Aroma is a big dose of banana’s and clove. Flavor is yeasty banana’s with some cloves and pepper. Outsanding example of the style.

Had this on tap at Barley’s The Smokehouse. This was a big hit at my table. Giant fresh nose of banana’s, berries, citrus, pear & apple - in a word, fruity. This brew is fuzzy sparkling light clover honey. The super white head has light lace and is mostly diminishing. The beer is very malty and fresh with no acidity. Just a trickle of sour snap. The finish is very light. The light to medium body is soft and very creamy.

08-May-07 Bomber from Liquor Barn, Lexington, KY. Pours a hazy dark gold with small, quickly fading white head. This one has all the requisite aromas and flavors of a typical, run of the mill german hefeweizen, but lacks any of it’s own bells or whistles. A bit of a plastic or band-aid aroma fights with orange-citrus subtleties in aroma. Flavor is a bit too sweet for my liking and finishes with more band-aid and a bit of wet paper flavor. Flaws aside, it’s a drinkable brew and it probably worlds better fresh.

650 ml bottle

This was on clearance at Steve’s so I picked up a bottle to give a try. So far Barrel House is two for two on well made enjoyable beers. Though neither has turned my world upside down, they are great beers for the price (even the pre sale price of $3.49). I’m going to have to pick up a bottle of the Pale Ale to see how it stacks up before they all are sold.

Aroma / Appearance - A cloudy mandarin colored body was protected by a one finger bleached white head. The smell of hot banana nut bread rose from the glass along with raisins, pears, lemons and cranberries. There is a maltiness evident if you look for it but it is not dominating.

Flavor / Palate - Malty bananas (the kind which are perfectly ripe) form a sweet layer of tastes. Cherry, wheat bread and other fruit flavors sit on top of a base which can be summed up as banana cream pie. There is not much complexity to it at all (in fact I just about summed it up with the first two items) but it still makes a great summer drinker. Unlike higher gravity beers which are sippers this is one you could either ponder or rush through. My only advice is to not let it warm too much before finishing off the bottle.

Pale gold color out of the bottle with two fingers of frothy white head. Vibrant nose of yeast and tangerine peel. Lively on the tongue with spicey clove, banana, orange, apricot and doughy yeast. Some lemon citrus comes to the fore in the finish. I find a little conflict between the sweet and tangy parts of this beer.

typical cloudy dark golden pour with surprisingly minimal white head for a german style hefeweizen. It’s a solid beer but for someone who likes german wheat beer as much as I do, this offering does not live up to it’s claim in the description that it’s "unlike anything (I’ve) tasted before". not bad, though.

Okay pour, an almost clear golden body with a big fizzy head. It smells like wheat flakes with slices of banana and a soapy yeast. The flavor’s better, although the Wheaties element comes across too strong. Ripe bananas with a touch of clove and other warming spices. It has a snappy crisp finish with little aftertaste. Decent enough.

Hazy golden in color. Flavor is fruits, bananas, wheats, and candy sweetness, and its damn good too. Light bodied making It easy to make a session out of. This is what a summer beer should be like. Will definitely be making a second purchase.
