Commercial Description:
In July of 1989, an official sister city relationship was established between Munich, Germany and Cincinnati, Ohio. This marzen style beer celebrates the symbiotic relationship of Munich and Cincinnati through the pairing of American malted barley with German Noble hops. BarrelHouse Oktoberfest is a deep ruby colored lager featuring rich toasty caramel malt flavors with a subdued toffee characteristic. Assertively hopped to maintain a balanced bitterness, BarrelHouse Oktoberfest lager is best enjoyed in liter steins toasting good friends and good times. Prost! "Ein Cincinnati Prosit an Munchen"

Enjoyed at Oktoberfest Zinzinnati ’07. Pours dark orange, with a mostly receding off-white head. Aroma is bready, with notes of carapils, toasted grain and cookie. Taste is full and sweet with more of the husky, grainy, Munich malty goodness. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and slightly sticky with medium carbonation. Perhaps a bit too sweet to be refreshing, but then again, when it’s 90F outside, beer is not always the best option.

A clear amber color with tint of orange. Flavor had a bit of a hops bite to it, which I enjoyed. Overall a well-balanced medium bodied brew.

Draft at Oktoberfest Zinzinnati. Dark amber color, good head retention with some lacing, taste has significantly more hop punch than is usual to go along with the toasted malt, zesty finish. Not quite as assertively flavored overall as the Moerlein Fifth & Vine Oktoberfest Marzen but decent in its own right.

Pours a darker amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of slight toasted malts, caramel, and spices. Flavor is malty but not too overpowering. Toasted malts and caramel up front finishing with spices and a little bitterness from the floral hops. Overall this is a pretty decent Oktoberfest.

Knoxville Brewers’ Jam 2006. Pours clear copper with off-white head. Clean aroma of butter and caramel. The flavor has some butterscotch (in a capacity that fits in pretty well), caramel, and some cake. Not bad.

Draught at Knoxville Brewer’s Jam ’06. Pours dark amber/copper with a thin off-white head. Aroma is strong caramel, with some spicy notes. The flavor was complex and sweet, due to the strong caramel sugary malts, but also had a nice spice and mild fruitiness to keep it interesting.

Shiny copper, with a thin beige head. Huge caramel / toffee / brown sugar aroma, and a pleasent toasty, caramel flavor. Notes of honey, molasses as well. Sampled at Knoxville Brewer’s Jam, 2006.

Draft at Mecklenburg Garden. Clear dark amber with an average fizzy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate sweet malty and spice aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations were not met due to sweetness.
