Little to no lacing evident. The aroma is a fair amount of hops in tandem with a malty aspect. Medium bodied, and the flavor veers between the malt and hops, with a sweet caramel undertone. The finish is a little hoppy as well. Very easy drinking and complemented my bratwurst nicely. AlchemistZ (493), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 21, 2004 Low, non-distinct aroma. It is easier to smell the water used in making the beer. Rather full-bodied, even fluffy mouthfeel balanced by a relatively huge hop bitterness and acidity. Malt flavors are toasty caramel with just a little graininess. Finishes with a solid green hop flavor and a little fruitiness. Mine appeared to suffer from a little chill haze at Fries Cafe. I agree with hopsrus concerning it stylistically and drinkability. strangaj (229), West Chester, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 23, 2007 A clear amber color with tint of orange. Flavor had a bit of a hops bite to it, which I enjoyed. Overall a well-balanced medium bodied brew. DrHomolka (731), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 30, 2008 Bomber. Pours a pretty, dark golden/amber color with a small but well retained white head. Smell is sweet, toasty, malty, normal vienna/marzen aroma. Pleasant aroma, almost Great Lakes-esque. Taste is light, smooth, clean, slightly - very slightly sweet, pretty dry for the style. Highly drinkable. Don’t understand the low scores on this one. Granted it’s not fantastic or anything but it’s certainly a decent if not good example of the style. jb (1057), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 5, 2008 I found this one quite enjoyable and am surprised by the recent negative reviews. I enjoy this style, and this one was a bit unique because it had a bit more hops, at least in some mouthfuls. The color was deep orange, aroma of molasses and cinammon. Apples in the palate along with graham crackers. Occasional hoppiness. This had wonderful complexity for an Okt. TheBeerOrg (1586), Kentucky, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 23, 2007 Enjoyed at Oktoberfest Zinzinnati ’07. Pours dark orange, with a mostly receding off-white head. Aroma is bready, with notes of carapils, toasted grain and cookie. Taste is full and sweet with more of the husky, grainy, Munich malty goodness. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and slightly sticky with medium carbonation. Perhaps a bit too sweet to be refreshing, but then again, when it’s 90F outside, beer is not always the best option. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Sep 23, 2006 On tap at Barley’s Smokehouse in Columbus - Pours copper in color with a very short creamy offwhite head. Aromas of light caramel and not much else. Flavor is light caramel, dough, grains, and light hops on the finish. Palate is quite watery and without carbonation... I think the palate was this beers biggest drawback.. Drjohnrock (95), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 22, 2007 Draft at Oktoberfest Zinzinnati. Dark amber color, good head retention with some lacing, taste has significantly more hop punch than is usual to go along with the toasted malt, zesty finish. Not quite as assertively flavored overall as the Moerlein Fifth & Vine Oktoberfest Marzen but decent in its own right.
