Commercial Description:
In the old days, runners who made it to third base were rewarded with a mug of beer. This is the way the game was meant to be played; pitchers throwing side-armed and a half barrel on the field. Asa Brainard, the pitcher who led Cincinnati's first professional baseball team to the World Championship in 1869, was paid $1,600. The beer must have been good! Our RedLegg Ale is an American style red ale, the kind you'd find in the hop country of the Pacific Northwest. This deep red ale is a has a great big hop flavor and a slightly sweet finish.

Bottle: Pours amber with a thin bubbly film for head. Aroma has some biquity malt presence and a subtle cinnamon hint. The flavor is completely different than the aroma suggests. Surprisingly sour flavor, with a raspberry-like acidity, slightly vinegary. There’s hardly any hop character, and it’s also very thin in body. Has a sour dough finish. This stuff is pretty odd and against the grain, not too good.

Bottle sampled on 6/30/07: Pours a transparent copper amber with a thin, wispy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of earthy resiny grapefruity hops and some grainy malt. Body starts somewhat thinner and grainy with a touch of toasted malt and earthy hops toward a thinner, blander finish.

clear burgundy/amber with fading fizzy head. ok, the head is already gone. caramel aroma. flavor has lots of caramel and tea notes. also a bit of coffee in the finish. an odd one indeed. a touch of sourness which is starting to become a trademark of this brewery for me after having several of their beers.(deliberate or infection? whatever it is, it seems to add character) medium bodied.

Bottle. Sweet and malty nose with floral hops, reminds a bit of Duveneck but hops are slightly different. A little candy sugar and toned-down funk. Beautiful but large rocky cream beige/tan head, dark and slightly cloudy copper-amber body - pretty! Lightly sour and acidic taste, malt with yeast finishing very dry with a consistent yeast contribution. Medium body, crisp initial feel. Hoping I just got a bad bottle, but something tells me I did not.

22 oz. botle had an amber cloudy por. Big fizzy head. Citrus nose, maybe? The taste is medicine, with a harsh, quite unpleasant after taste.

Pale amber color with a lacey beige head. Nice aroma, but that’s it. This is a very light beer with little body and a citrus (possibly grapefruit) flavor. I would not recommend this beer.

Thanks to AgedOak for sharing this bottle. Reddish amber color with a foamy tan head and a wet grain nose that I tend to get from "amber ales." The dominance of the grains continued into the beer, with a grainy astringency that fought with the caramel sweetness. There is a slight tartness in the finish that may or may not have been there on purpose. I did not notice the hops mentioned in the commercial description either. Pretty standard amber.
