The flavor is all about the malt. I’m really not getting the "great big hop flavor" that the commercial description claims is there. What hops are there are very mild. It’s smooth and straightforward, a very average brew. sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Sep 6, 2007 Bomber. Nice rusty color with a frothy light beige head. Aroma of grainy and caramel malts with some dusty hay and/or dead grass hop notes. Weird and unexpected sourness in the flavor, almost like a lactic acid or sour cherry infusion, but I doubt that this was intended here since it’s an American amber ale. A bit off-putting. Maybe a bad bottle, but at any rate not a good sample. jerohen (1615), Bussum, Netherlands

Caramel malty aroma, some fruit (lemon?) and just a hint of spices. Sweet flavour. Smooth beer, but lacking complexity and character. Thanks to my girfriend for bringing it from Cincinnati. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

Smell: Sweet-smelling aroma of caramelized sugar and toasted grains with only a hint of spicy herbs.
Taste: Mild malty sweetness of dark caramel balanced by a touch of lemon and a soft, tea-like bitterness which carries through to the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Relatively low carbonation.
Drinkability: Yep, it’s a session amber ale alright! hopscotch (5537), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jul 24, 2007 Bottle... Hazy orange ale with a mid-sized, rocky, off-white head. Terrific retention. The nose is a malt-bomb of caramel, milk chocolate, praline, toasted chestnuts and cashews. The flavor is mostly malty up front with more gobs of caramel along with praline and brown sugar, but then an unwelcome acidity kicks in. Don’t know if the bottle’s infected, unique or oxidized. Not entirely unpleasant, but not nearly what it could be. Fortunately for me, I dig sour shit. Medium-bodied and creamy, then tannic and dry with lively carbonation. Lightly malty, moderately acidic finish. Dries out entirely! This is either contract-brewed by Jolly Pumpkin or there’s a bug in the jug! I’ll pretent it’s contract brewed by The Pumpkin! Enjoyed during a nice game of cricket (darts). Aroma has a very cloying scent--crystal malt mixed with rotten fruit maybe--that I’m not a huge fan of. Flavor follows suit with strong malty flavors with a weak hop profile. Meh.
