Commercial Description:
In the old days, runners who made it to third base were rewarded with a mug of beer. This is the way the game was meant to be played; pitchers throwing side-armed and a half barrel on the field. Asa Brainard, the pitcher who led Cincinnati's first professional baseball team to the World Championship in 1869, was paid $1,600. The beer must have been good! Our RedLegg Ale is an American style red ale, the kind you'd find in the hop country of the Pacific Northwest. This deep red ale is a has a great big hop flavor and a slightly sweet finish.

An amber apperance as you would expect. The aroma is yeasty and malty with some caramel and dark fruits. The flavor is rather subdue with some citrus and caramel. A rather carbonated mouthfeel. Overall its pretty boring.

Pours amber with a moderate head. Strong aroma of butterscotch. Rather complex flavor reminiscent of butterscotch and malt. Moderate mouth feel. Decent, drinkable beer.

Amber pour, overcarbonated, some roasted malt, bread, some bitterness, but the overcarbonation killed this one for me, drinkable, but eh.

6/10/2007: Barrel House Red Legg Ale is clear amber in color and has a really dense, ivory head that leaves some foamy lacing. The aroma and flavor have caramel malts. The flavor also has a nice roastiness to it. There is just a little bit of bitterness that helps to balance this beer out. It also has a medium body and is very smooth. This is a really nicely done red ale that is so easy to drink. It’s even better on draught. I have always enjoyed this beer and Barrel House beers in general. I’m so glad that their beers are available again.

22 oz bottle from The Party Source. Shared with Rob and Terry during the Vanilla Creme Ale brewout at my place...

Bottle Butterscotch malt aroma with light hint of hops. Cloudy reddish amber with a small head. Tart cherry/Granny Smith apple initially blended with a light butterscotch flavor - minimal sweetness. Very different beer but quite good - nice blending of tart and diacetyl flavors.
