Commercial Description:
In the old days, runners who made it to third base were rewarded with a mug of beer. This is the way the game was meant to be played; pitchers throwing side-armed and a half barrel on the field. Asa Brainard, the pitcher who led Cincinnati's first professional baseball team to the World Championship in 1869, was paid $1,600. The beer must have been good! Our RedLegg Ale is an American style red ale, the kind you'd find in the hop country of the Pacific Northwest. This deep red ale is a has a great big hop flavor and a slightly sweet finish.

Bottle from Liquor Barn in L’ville. Pours orange amber with an off white head. Mild aroma of caramel and fruity hops. Nice and interesting malt flavor of caramel, toasted malt, wet grains, and subtle rye. A non-aggressive hop spiciness balances this out. Moderate bitterness and slight dryness on the finish. A very solid session red, and very under rated IMO.

From a 22 oz. bomber with no freshness date, sampled at cellar temperature in a pint glass. Poured a clear reddish hued amber with a frothy, foamy off-white head, good retention, slowly settled into a thin sudsy lacing. Nice malty nose, toasted grains, caramel toffee sweet, a light apple, pear fruitiness, softy spicy and floral. Good carbonation and a malty crisp, dry, at times thin, smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel. Malty in taste, toasted grains and sugary, again the caramel toffee with a hint of cocoa powder, a trace of toasted nuts, green apple fruitiness, the hops seem to be down played, just a light spiciness, a mild bitterness towards the end, and a dry toasted grainy, subtle apple fruity along with a touch of earth in the finish. Not a bad amber/red ale, easy drinkability, quite enjoyable on a rainy, warm spring evening. Too bad the Reds suck, maybe they should go back to offering free beer if a runner gets to third base.

Rated 9/23/06: Amber Ale, 4.9% ABV brewed by some good folks down in Southern Ohio. Barrel House recently started bottling four of their beers for distribution. Enjoyed this fine amber with a homemade pizza. Mellow malty aroma with a light hoppiness and mild sweetness. Good pour, amber color with a generous and very creamy swirling head. Easy on the palate and exceptionally smooth. Flavor was well received, easy to drink. Good blend of malts and hops, medium bodied. This is a very good example of a well crafted amber ale.

22oz bottle, no date. Pours a clear ruby and a one finger quickly fading fizzy beige head. Aroma up front is biscuits, toast, and maybe peanut husks. Some sweet caramel is there with some minimal citrus hops. Flavor is the same--pretty sweet--with light citrus hops and a low bitterness. Overall very sweet and biscuity. Light to moderate carbonation with a watery body. For $2.49 a bomber it’s hard to be let down by this, though I don’t think I need to get it again.

Pour is a dark red with a large white fluffy head. Aroma is a nice mix of bready malts and with a nice hoppy backbone. Flavor is way off. This must be a bad bottle or something. Way super sour and bitter. Nothing else shows up as it the sourness takes over. This was pretty cheap for a bomber so i may have to rerate this has got to be off.

Reddish amber color. Smell of roasted malt, sugar, hops and light caramel. Taste of malt, copper, little rye, fruit, caramel and hops. Nice brew. Not that bad. Its drinkable.

Minimal head on this amber pour with a malty nose. Sweet malty body that was watery over all.
