Commercial Description:
In the old days, runners who made it to third base were rewarded with a mug of beer. This is the way the game was meant to be played; pitchers throwing side-armed and a half barrel on the field. Asa Brainard, the pitcher who led Cincinnati's first professional baseball team to the World Championship in 1869, was paid $1,600. The beer must have been good! Our RedLegg Ale is an American style red ale, the kind you'd find in the hop country of the Pacific Northwest. This deep red ale is a has a great big hop flavor and a slightly sweet finish.

Bottle sampled on 6/30/07: Pours a transparent copper amber with a thin, wispy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of earthy resiny grapefruity hops and some grainy malt. Body starts somewhat thinner and grainy with a touch of toasted malt and earthy hops toward a thinner, blander finish.

Bottle... Hazy orange ale with a mid-sized, rocky, off-white head. Terrific retention. The nose is a malt-bomb of caramel, milk chocolate, praline, toasted chestnuts and cashews. The flavor is mostly malty up front with more gobs of caramel along with praline and brown sugar, but then an unwelcome acidity kicks in. Don’t know if the bottle’s infected, unique or oxidized. Not entirely unpleasant, but not nearly what it could be. Fortunately for me, I dig sour shit. Medium-bodied and creamy, then tannic and dry with lively carbonation. Lightly malty, moderately acidic finish. Dries out entirely! This is either contract-brewed by Jolly Pumpkin or there’s a bug in the jug! I’ll pretent it’s contract brewed by The Pumpkin!

Bottle courtesy of footbalm. Pours copper with a thin ring of white bubbles. Smells of sweet malt and citrus. Taste is nutty with hints of butter, fruit, nuts and dough. Run of the mill even for an amber, but drinkable and the label’s great.

This has a bright amber body with a modest head that lingers none too long. The aroma is malty and fruity (apples, cherries) with a light herbal edge. It’s sweet and fruity to taste, but unfortunately the bitterness recedes to the point that it becomes a bit too sweet for my tastes.
