I saw the bottle, and said to myself - classic British brew. It offers almost no aroma, appearance is quite normal. The flavor is very forgetable. The palate feel is ordinary. This beer is very forgetable. I was disappointed, by what I thought would be a UK classic.

Tasted 11/12/2007. 500ml bottle from the cellar, at about 15c. Deep gold. Brilliant. Airy white head. Soft caramel and nutty notes on the nose. A little orange hop character backs it up. Good dry malt and nettle-like hop balance in the mouth. There’s a slight watery aspect and a lollyish finish, neither of which I’m not keen on. Everything else is pretty solid, without being inspirational. If only this was what NZers had to complain about.

I had this beer at a bar and found it mediocre. Even for a bitter, I found the taste of the alcohol to be too prominent. It pours a burned golden brown color with little head and the palate was not attractive. Very harsh and no real substance, but on the plus side it does have a clean, sharp taste, although not very palatable.

500ml Bottle. Deep red colour, fizzy to feed a thin head. Slightly antiseptic sweet smell, not offensive. Also a sour maltiness. Light nutty brown taste, plenty of malt once the bitterness fades. Leaves malt in the mouth. Spoilt only by beig too subtle and almost weak.

Even though this is a very clean uncomplicated beer, it is lacking any punch whatsoever. The color is pure amber with a slight and I mean SLIGHT aroma attributed to the hops. I did however find this easy to drink, and it kept me content throuighout the 6-pack. Does go great with a Black & Tan, Guiness/Bass combo....can’t beat that on St. Patty’s Day!

Amber color, OK head. Malty, fruity aroma. The flavour has the same notes and it’s an uncomplicated beer without anything special.

Bottle or tap. Still one of my favorites. This nutty flavored brew leaves a fine after taste with each sip. Sits well on the palate.

A subtle and well-balanced beer, better than the sum of its parts. Yes, it’s slightly nutty, slighty hoppy, slightly malty, slightly bitter - but that’s the good thing, all of these components are brought together so well.
