If I thought this was dismal in the bottle and couldn’t get worse, I was now seriously mistaken. Poured a chestnut hued gold, bright, with a quickly diminishing thin pad of white (though the pint was filled to the brim - value!). Rust and peanut aroma, touch of malt. Thin, watery and overly sweet in the mouth for its dismal body to handle. There’s just an inkling of malt and a little zest of something I couldn’t define down the sides of the tongue, and the aftertaste has traces of brine, nuts and butter. This is woeful at best. Washed it down with a bottle of water and some hardy bangers and mash as I couldn’t bring myself to tip it out. A famous name, not a famously good beer. Numenor (869), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 20, 2006 Had this as a gravity cask at The Star pub in Bath, England. First time I’d ever heard that this beer was produced for such a market. Typical of the normal Bass flavoring and texture, however the cask nature has softened some of the rough edges and as such makes for a more enjoyable beer. harrisoni (6798), Ashford, Kent, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 10, 2006 Cask handpull at The Flute, Liverpool. Copper coloured with lasting white head. Still a very good session beer. Enough flavour to keep you coming back for more, without being overwhelming. Good minerality. Some caramel, some hop, some yeast. Always found it hard to pin down Bass. Bit of sweetness, bit of lemon citrus. Or was that the girl’s perfume? TheGrandMaster (1860), Auckland, New Zealand

Gravity fed into a jug before being served in the pint glass. Was certainly well kept and the late night pint was an experience. Nekronos (2265), Xalapa, Mexico

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 8, 2006 Had cask conditioned at the Goose Oxford 07-04-06. Long while since I’d had a pint of this so I thought I would reaquaint myself. Amber coloured beer, sweet to start with but then a slight bitterness kicks in, some hops. A good beer but has been surpassed in the flavour stakes by a lot of the new kids on the block. TexasAggie12 (64), Burnet, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 5, 2006 Nice malty but bitter taste. Color is a amber golden. Beer has nice feel on the taste buds with equal amounts of malt and hops.
