On the label, Bass claims to be the original pale ale. It is smooth and has a unique flavor (in which I detect a hint of orange peel) that goes well with food. It is lightly hoppy and mildly bitter, without much carbonation and a nice copper coloring. This is a pleasant classic that is a little short in strengths and surprises.

Bottled 568ml. It pours an amber-brown beer with a slightly tanned and nicely remaining head of a good size. The aroma is of nuts, Christmas pudding, raisins and fudge. A rather enjoyable full nose. The taste is rather malty. Some mint-like elements show up. A nice full-bodied beer. The finish is faint and a bit unenjoyable. Some marzipan. A beautiful lacing has been left... The aftertaste reminds me somewhat of a malt liquor.

I drank this from a bottle, unfortunately, at a wedding. But it was very tasty none the less. Sweet malts up front with a slightly bitter finish.

Reddish copper with fizzy white head. Vaguely malty aroma and taste, but way too watery in most every respect to good.

The U.S. version. Pours honey-brown with a red tint. Off-white head that fades momentarily and leaves little lacing. Hoppy aroma but not overpowering. Full bodied with a medium mouthfeel. Bitter flavor with a bit of an aftertaste. Not near as good as Fullers but a lot easier to find in a pinch. A good ale to introduce to your friends who are interested in taking baby steps to expand their beer drinking experience.

Maybe slightly better than average. Not as good as a striper. Get off your ass and have a bass.
