Commercial Description:
Cask: Unfiltered; Bottle: Filtered.
A roasted barley aroma, a deep, dark colour and a smooth-yet-dry taste: all the hallmarks of an exquisite stout. We brew Dark Hare using a blend of dark roasted malts and an old fashioned (and rather famous) English hop called Fuggles. These fine ingredients, together with our brewers’ skill and diligence, have made this an impressive and seriously smooth stout. Made with wheat and barley malt.

Ruby reddish-brown beer beer with a tiny and quickly evaporating head. The scent is filled with mainly burned malt. The taste is also dominated with that same burnt, dry malt and some butter. A rather boring stout.

Cask (handpump) at the Rake, Southwark, April 2008. Dark red/brown colour. Not much inn the aroma. Touch of roasty malt in the flavour. Not a lot going on. Seemed rather light bodied for a stout - more like a mild. Drinkable but dull. Possibly not in peak condition - marked for re-rate.

Bottle (in NZ), pours a dark reddy-brown with a foamy brown head. Just a light malty nose. The palate is roasty and dry, with lots of coffee flavour. The finish is creamy and smooth. Quite moreish.

[bottle] Sour prune aroma with some toast and significant hops. Clear black-garnet with a lasting beige foam. Roasty flavour with some sweetness that is balanced by a black malt bitterness. Plenty of vanilla and coffee. Light to medium body, clean finish.

A Sim rate: cask at the Bree Louise.
Smells like a fresh espresso but only if you stick your nose right in. Disappointing appearance. Looks flat and lifeless. I expected better from the flavour, particularly after such a nice aroma. Slight diacetyl but otherwise a slightly creamy malty flavour that just about boarders on pleasant.

Mini Cask. Bishops Arms Järntorget. Gothenburg. Dark brown colour with a small beige head. Light roastiness, licorice, coffee, earthy hops. Dry finish. Light bodied and easy drinking.
