Bottle from asda. Aroma is roasty and chocolate, near no hop character slightly hay like. Taste is similar, with a fairly oily mouthfeel and tar like richness, but yet still thin and goes down quite easily.

Bottle from Utobeer. Aroma of Chocolate, hops, smoke/tobacco, malts. Pours a dark brown coloured beer with a veneer of foam. Light bodided, chocolate, thin, hoppy, metal and dryness in the finish. Tobacco comes to mind and I don’t/have never smoke! Quite intersting and a very individiual porter. That said not in the top quartile.

Bottled from a London supermarket. Nice little porter, roast grain, chocolate, a little soot. Very low carbonation for a bottled beer, and if this was brewed to 5.9 instead of 4.9 it would probably be more punching, too. Not quite there.

33cl bottle from Asda. Very deep ruby/brown with thin deep beige head. Powdery choc aroma, some smoke, dark fruits, plums and blackberrries. Pretty good in mouth. Fullness of body if a little oily. Decent tingling hop on end. Overall a very likeable beer. Good intense aroma and flavours. Solid beer.

A Mes rate: 33cl bottle from Utobeer. Dull wheaty nose. Dull porter looks. Dull porter flavour, slight bit of this, slight bit of that. Not assertive enough, no real character. It has all it needs, decent malt, chocolate, coffee, bitter finish etc etc. It’s just like half a job.

Pours very dark brown with thick bubbly head. Aroma is very light coffee, sweetness and a whiff of berries. Flavor is coffee, coffee bitterness, alcohol and hop bitterness. The hop bitterness is pronounced for this style and lasts through to the bitter aftertaste. Very good, but it could be a touch maltier, with a fuller mouthfeel.
