This beer is imported, I’m assured by the label, so I’ve got that going for me. However, its called "Bavaria", but its from Holland. That seems, I don’t know, deceptive somehow. I mean, really, You can’t just call your beer Bavaria and then boom, you’ve got yourself a Bavarian beer. You can’t fool me. This is a standard green bottle importedlager, by the way.

Bottle says Bavaria Holland Beer; brewers website calls this bottle Bavaria premium; Nose is grassy and grainy; pale gold with a small white head; flavor slightly sweet and a little caramel malt with a tiny bit of hoppiness.

Even though a lot of people here want to say it has no backbone I detected hops taste to mine. The problem was that it seems somewhat astringent. It does have an unusual sort of a skunky smell and I am not sure if it is truly skunky or what. The only interesting thing about this beer is the hint of citrus in the aftertaste. I guess you could say this one has more in common with Mexican beer than it does with most European beer.

15-Aug-07 (12 oz bottle: BevMo in La Jolla, CA) Dark straw in color with a slight haze, but even immediately after the pour, barely any carbonation bubbles rise through the beer. So, not an especially impressive appearance to this beer, but it does have a white, rocky, fluffy head that leaves plenty of lace near the top of the glass. Grainy, vaguely bready malt aroma doesn’t provide much inspiration to take a sip. The bready malts taste fairly sweet and become almost honey-like on the palate toward the finish, but a bit of stale, papery flavor comes through in the finish as well. Hops makes the mildest of contributions in the attack, but then quickly and totally disappears in the evolution, and without that mild bitterness, the beer doesn’t have a pleasant aftertaste. Light-medium in body and carbonation, but lacking the crisp, clean flavor and mouthfeel one expects from a premium lager. Overall, this premium lager lacks a quality malt flavor, needs a more balanced finish, and is simply way too sweet to be taken seriously. Won’t buy this again.

Clear gold, the head white the lace minimal. Nose is malt, the top light, the finish is acidic, dry, and lightly hopped, quite forgettable. Does not make my current 1000 beer master list.

Very average. I certainly wouldn’t be ashamed to ice down a cooler-full for a BBQ. This is a perfectly servicable beer, especially with food, at a good price point ($5/6-16 oz.) I actually rather enjoyed the aroma (from the can, not from the green bottle,) which is slightly malty and alcoholic. Flavor is somewhat malty, but otherwise close to American Standard. Palate clings a little. Deep green can, not particularly attractive.

Bottle with MaltDawg on 08/16/2008 or sometime shortly afterward since these ratings were lost for a half a year. I only wrote down Bavaria - Holland in my notes, so hopefully this is the correct beer. Clear golden body with a medium frothy white head. Sweet corn, pilsener and honey malt aroma with some skunk. Honey malt and corn flavor. Medium light body with moderately high carbonation.

[723-20070930] 500mL. Metallic straw aroma has a hint of something floral. Clear, yellow brown body with a quick creamy white head. Sweet straw continues in flavour with metallic grainy yeast. Light-medium body. Not pleasant.
