Commercial Description:
In Flanders, "Ezel" {donkey} is a nickname given to specific people or even entire village communities. However, as the people of this area, the word "Ezel" symbolizes not so much stupidity, but patient and dogged perseverance, a perseverance that is quite conscious of its own quality. The same applies to this ale: brewed from raw materials of the highest quality, it has a mellow taste that shows a real personality.

The aroma is nothing to write home about. Appearance is that of a clear amber beer. Flavor is really nice, with a palate that goes from sweetness to soury and a really bitter hoppy finish. Enjoyable!

De Zolder, Brugge, New Year’s Eve. Clear red and thinly headed. Chewy, waxy, prune-sodden aroma. Flavour srtaightforwardly malty, with lots of chewy dark fruit. Didn’t strike me as overly sweet at all. Simple but good.

Bottle at Cambrinus in Brugge. Light aroma of cooked dark fruits - aka raisins. Dark amber color with a fine beige head. Less than medium body. Fine carbonation. It’s a great flow of light caramel and floral/herbal hop. It’s balanced. It goes with spicey food. It finishes well. Truly sessionable (except for the ABV).

Bottle Hazy, amber-brown body. Off-white, creamy head. Lightly infected aroma (butterscotch, diacethyl (?)), fenols, malts (medium strong), wine, ... Quite badly balanced aroma. Moderately bitter, moderately sweet flavour. Flavour is ok, although the balance is not perfect, but that’s not really disturbing. Powdery dry mouthfeel.

Bottle, 25cl, light orange-amber color, small, diminishing white head. Average malt aroma with a bit off chocolate. Thin body with a light bitter-metallic finish

From the Bottle at Chris O’s, GBBF Week 09/08/2008 Plenty of malt aroma. Some carbonation. Amber coloured and strong in alcohol with a crisp and slightly dry malt finish.

Bottle@Home. Very strange aroma. Is it malt? Don’t know. It’s sweet and sourish, raisin, figues and?. Dark amber color, beige head, good lace. Sweet, caramel malts, light herbal bitterness, hint of raisin. Sticky mouthfeel. Better than expected.

A dark amber ale with a thick light moka head. A light malty aroma with caramel and light fruity esters. In mouth, a Belgian vienna, a bit nutty, with light oxidation and hops. So-so. BB 26-06-10. Bottle at Smokeless Joes, March 23, 2009.
