Bottle picked up at the Little Beer Shop, Ludlow, Salop 10-03-07. A much tastier and better beer than it’s stablemate the Pilaarbijter Bruin that I’d had a day or two ago. Like the other beer it was very lively and great care is to be taken in pouring this beer as it seems hell bent on getting out of the bottle. The beer poured a hazy light golden colour with a large fluffy white head similar to that which you get with a Duvel. The comparisons with Duvel didn’t stop there as I thought that like the Duvel the strength of this beer was always apparent and it too had a yeasty character to it, it also had a definite spiceiness and like the contributor before me I also got coriander along with some exotic fruits in this. A decent beer worth seeking out again.

Yellow with a great head and lace. Yeasty and on the sweet side, fruity yeast. this is not too complex but works for what it is. Light mouthfeel, almost lagerish. Tad of ginger, some coriander, it all works.

What exactly is the significance of someone who bites pillars? Anyway, the beer pours with a hazy, orangish straw color. It is well carbonated and topped by an initially three-finger thick, pale almost white colored head. The aroma is quite funky and spicy; it smells a bit of moldy, funky cheese and also of earthy spices, damp earth, and perhaps a hint of phenolic plastic. Lots of different phenolic aromatics are here though.

Well carbonated, the beer foams up as it first hits my tongue. It is fairly dry as well and finishes with a light tartness. Despite this, it has a medium fullness to the palate. As the beer loses carbonation it picks up a hint of sweetness, but it remains quite an austere beer overall. The beer has a spicy character that is a mix of white pepper, ginger, lemon peel, and an earthy note sort of like coriander, but much more geared towards damp earth. That funky cheese note is here in the flavor as well, it is not quite that prominent, but is certainly quite noticeable. There is some lightly noticeable fruit notes here as well, with notes of pear and apple being most noticeable. This beer is just not that great, the cheesy note certainly does not help, but even without that there is not enough here to really hold my interest.

Bottle from uto. Light golden in colour with a pillowy mousse head. It’s yet to die down. Fantastic nose of honey. The flavour is a bit of a let down. Flat taste of citrus and hops with a bitter twist. Salty finish. Pretty good, but I prefer the brune.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy white-yellow body with a soapy medium white head. Fruity yeast aroma - pears and cereal. Quite dry and somewhat acidic. Bready yeast finish. Average.
Tasted at Smokeless Joe in Toronto on January 19, 2007.

Bottle 330 ml @ Smokeless Joe
Pours hazy, golden, with light specs of amber. Large pillow head on top leaving neat lacing left behind.
Aroma: spicy, slightly dusty yet overall clean. Light mineral hop notes, refreshing finish.
Medium bodied, light short sour bits, abruptly short dry finish. Light bitter aftertaste with hints of alcohol. Felt light for such potent ale.
