Commercial Description:
Dark ale, fermented in the bottle.
Inspired by a Breughel painting, “The Flemish Proverbs” (1559), in which several Flemish proverbs are depicted amongst which is the expression "He’s a pilaarbijter" ("pillar biter"), which means, ’He’s a hypocritical man.’

Dark brown color with hints of read and a spongey head. Almost smoked nose with some malt. Toasted malt, bit sweet taste. Thin bodied.

Light peararoma. Pear drups flavor with hints of roasted malt. Rather thin. Sticky finish. Not bad, just boring.

Hazy dark brown color, with a nice tan-colored foamy head, with a sweet malty note, with molasses, brown sugar, fruity of dates, browm malt aromas follow through on a medium-bodied palate with brown sugar, molasses, chocolatey note, toffee, dark fruits, dates, good malty accent and carbonation, leading towards a sweet fairly malty finish.

33 cl bottle, ’03. Gigantic, rocky tan head with yeasties, sits on top of a brown body. Taste is tangy right away with some dried grape and chocolate. The head takes up half the glass, so ya gotta be careful pouring. Listed on RB as a Belgian Ale, the label states it’s a tripel. Not getting enough sweetness for that, but oh well. Some candy sugars are evident with medium carbonation. An enjoyable beer I’d drink again.

Sample from 330 ml bottle at the Mondial. Dark copper-maple, fairly clear and seemingly filtered, uggh, with a large-bubbled fading beige head...caramel-grapy nose, little yeast, light anise...the body, fairly heavily carbonated, tingly, moderate maltiness, bit of licorice...chalky, rather bland finish.

Soy sauce, toffee and dark fruit in the sweet aroma. Clear, brassy brown with low off-white head that recedes to ring. Moderate bitterness to the very sweet fruit flavour. Some lactic tartness in the finish that becomes more apparent as it warms. Fair carbonation though body manages to feel dry even while it’s getting sticky on the lips. Sampled at Mondial de la Bière 2005.

The Lure:
Uberthick and creamy head smothers the fruity esters surging from the yeast. Gorgeous appearance, but that aroma needs help.

The Festivities:
Blueberries materialize in the whipped creamy feel, but yeast decides it owns the whole place and acts rude all the way down. Sweetness is powdery, and overall flavors are faint. An okay, second-tier Belgian ale.

Transcendence:
It’s harder to prove your individuality when you dress the same as everyone else in the crowd.

Terrific looks. It pours with a dense rocky and glass-sticking head over a dark garnet hue. Highly mineral nose bears understated maltiness hiding behind a stoney yeast, dry and doughy, but not allowing any complexities to get through. Licorice-like notes manage to reach the rear of the nasal cavity when in mouth. They pair with slightly earthy and once again very yeasty in a most powdery fashion. Dry chocolate and soft blueberries suggestions close the encounter swiftly. Very airy palate, powdery and dry.
