Commercial Description:
Huguenots may have originated the style as they traveled through France to Flanders, having first mentioned it in the 1600s. During their time, there were said to be seven hundred weissbier breweries in Berlin. Later, in 1809, Napoleon and his troops identified Berliner Weisse as the Champagne of the North. He requested the beer be served w/syrup to cut its extreme level of acidity. Bayrischer Bahnhof’s interpretation is a slightly softer, more mellow version of the “Berliner Weisse” style with a beautiful balance of tartness, fruitness, and sweetness.

Bottle. I’m so excited to finally try this style of beer after 2,200 beer ratings. An almost clear yellow color with a laced white head. A yeasty, bread and slight musty aroma. There was a sharp citrus tang on the palate at first but it quickly subsides. Lemon flavors throughout.

The bottle looks good. The beer in the glass also, very much foam. Smells like a good hefeweizen. Starts only modest sourish. The finish is yeasty and fruity, modest like lemon or peach. Prickly on the tongue. Great beer!

Bottle received via Secret Santa summer 2008. Pours hazy, light yellow with a small, fizzy, white head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is average malt (straw, meal), average hops (flowers, citrus), average yeast (horse blanket, barnyard) with notes of apple, pear, and peach. Light bodied, thin texture, soft carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness and acidity, moderate bitterness.

Bottle: Very cloudy light golden pour. Crisp aroma: wheaty, lemony, and green apple skins. Nice light body. Crisp and light flavor upfront. Lemon and some tart fruit skins. Has a sour apple note, then some wheat malt character, which gets a bit papery, with a lactic note. Seems oxidized; I want to try this stuff fresh.

Sampled at the Stone Sour Fest. Aromas were weak, and the flavor was more wheat than sour. Still not too bad. Just not as sour as I would have liked.

Bottle@Home. Aroma of lemon and wheat with hints of banan and herbs. Hazy, pale yellow color, white head, fair lace. Citric start, lemon, light bitter, after swallowing the sourness disappears and it becomes a bit sweet. Ok body for just 3% ABV. Refreshing and nice balance.
