Commercial Description:
Huguenots may have originated the style as they traveled through France to Flanders, having first mentioned it in the 1600s. During their time, there were said to be seven hundred weissbier breweries in Berlin. Later, in 1809, Napoleon and his troops identified Berliner Weisse as the Champagne of the North. He requested the beer be served w/syrup to cut its extreme level of acidity. Bayrischer Bahnhof’s interpretation is a slightly softer, more mellow version of the “Berliner Weisse” style with a beautiful balance of tartness, fruitness, and sweetness.

3%?? Definately the lightest beer I’ve ever had. Had it straight out of the box from Hellbilly. Hazy in the bottle. Very sweet tart feel. Sugary.

Slightly hazy pale gold with a thin head. Tart aroma with some apple and pear. Quite thin in body but well carbonated. It tastes like the wheat mash was rinsed well making for a table beer. Actually quite refreshing if not exactly hugely flavorful. Has some horsiness in the background that melds well with the mild sourness. This is a beer style I would like to try more of.

Whitewashed yellow. Creamy white ring of head surrounds a scattered center. Simple nose consists of stewed apples, mildly tart lactic adic and a whisper of straw-tinged malt and plastic. Soft carbonation washes over the palate. Nutty yeast sweetness matches that of the slightly grainy Pils malt which evokes thoughts of water crackers and straw. Some doughiness is present. Well-rounded seltzery acidity teases the palate but never buckles the cheeks. Not overly quenching or cleansing as a result of the relatively low acidity. Little in the way of esters, with the exception of a soft melon and peachy fruitiness which happens to be quite bright and complementary to the lactic acid. Late emergence of vibrant wheat echoes the mild tang derived from yeast. Finishes dryish with a rosewater softness yet with some chalkiness and toasted cracker maltiness which virtually scrubs the palate with its intense graininess. A bit simple and unchallenging, but undoubtedly would serve as a great introductory to the style.

Not as complex as I was expecting. Aroma is like sour green apples, lemon and lightly bready. Mouthfeel is very light with moderate, spritzy carbonation. At 3% alcohol, it’s flavor comes out more like a light, watery, hard apple cider than a true Berliner Weisse. If you’re looking for a good Berliner, go for Schultheiss.

[bottle] Very pale yellow color, poured with minimal foam. Nice lemon and lactic aroma. Flavors are tart and acidic, but still quite smooth. Very fruity citrus and wheat character. Not harsh in any way.

Pours watery gold with a thin white head. Nice citrusy wheat aroma. Flavor is mainly lemon citrus and grain with a bit of earthy funk. Finishes clean and quick, a bit sour. Very drinkable.

Nice one. I love this style and wish I could find more. This was a little weaker than I was hoping for but still great. Aroma of wheat and lemon. Pour was beautiful. A very light gold (almost white) with swirling heavy sediment. Not floaters but what can only be described as a shampoo like goopiness floating in the middle. Taste was nice and tart with a lot of yeast and lemon. Great carbonation. Nice dry aftertaste with the sour citrus staying in the back of the throat.

Slightly cloudy golden color pour with a thin white head. Aroma of lemon peel and yeast, with a touch of grass. Very smooth on the tongue. Slightly bitter, yeasty citrus flavor. Enjoyable.
