Commercial Description:
Huguenots may have originated the style as they traveled through France to Flanders, having first mentioned it in the 1600s. During their time, there were said to be seven hundred weissbier breweries in Berlin. Later, in 1809, Napoleon and his troops identified Berliner Weisse as the Champagne of the North. He requested the beer be served w/syrup to cut its extreme level of acidity. Bayrischer Bahnhof’s interpretation is a slightly softer, more mellow version of the “Berliner Weisse” style with a beautiful balance of tartness, fruitness, and sweetness.

Courtesy of Degarth. Pours an odd hazy straw to white paper with white head. The aroma is a light mildly lemony tartness flavor with the addition of some funk. The taste has an up front tart bite that is tempered with a mild wheat malt. It ends mildly tart and watery with thin shots of funk here and there. Refreshing hot weather brew.

Babyfood banana aroma. Shimmering pale yellow, thick snow white head with floaties. Extremely sour yet almost flavorless with a touch only of wheat and oat. Slight plastic aftertaste. Watery mouthfeel. I rather like the style, but this is nothing more than a novelty sour beer. Next time, I’ll suck on a lemon which has more flavor.

Small bottle. Pours a hazy yellow/gold with an initially frothy white head. Smells of tarte lemons, lactic, hints of straw and residual sugars, some sweet wheaty hints. Tastes moderately sour with some underlying tartness. Watery as is expected of this type of beer. Lots of sweet wheat touches and some lemony hints. Initially, this reminded me of lemonade. Finish yields some funkiness. Lots of sweetness with only touches of tartness. Definitely an enjoyable experience and yet another interesting traditional beer from this brewer.

Bought and tasted at the Pizza Port bottle shop with Brad. I’ve been eager to try a Berliner Weisse after reading much about how to make sour beers. Cloudy pale light yellow color. Lemony sour aroma is very mild. A little phenolic aroma from the yeast. Easy to drink. Nice session pizza beer.

(Bottle) Pours a cloudy pale yellow body with a small egg-white head. Aroma of wheat, mustiness, light peach, and lemon zest. Flavor of wheat, watered-down lemon juice, apple, and light banana.

Thanks to Dragonstout for this hookup well appreciated. Pours a pale golden colour with a medium fizzy off white head. Nose is abundant of tart white wine. Yeast, wheat, and light fruits are mild in the background. Initial taste is a mild tartness with a fizzy mouthfeel. Wheat and yeast seem make a short appearance. Malt sweetness gets cut out before finishing with a salty and tart presence on the sides of the mouth. Light to medium body, slight watery. Wet dry finish that coats that palate but requests for more. Very drinkable and enjoyable.

10 Nov 07. Little, 11.2oz bottle. Hazy pour from the yeast in the bottle. Bright yellow. White foamy head. Aroma is lemon, acidic, bready, with hints of the tartness wafting out of the rim of the glass. Flavor has a dominate malt character. Nice light tartness. Very light bodied. Easy to drink, low in alcohol, and REFRESHING! Prost!

Poured a lightly hazed yellow color with a medium white head that fades to a ring rather quickly. Some mild fruit and yeasty notes. The aroma has a short sweetness to it. Not much tartness. The flavor is light and citrusy lemon. It starts with a mild short sweetness and with a very light tartness following. There is a hint of yeasty spice on the otherwise clean short finish. Light bodied. I think a little more on the sour side and this could be pretty refreshing. Pretty far from the other examples I’ve had.
