Commercial Description:
Huguenots may have originated the style as they traveled through France to Flanders, having first mentioned it in the 1600s. During their time, there were said to be seven hundred weissbier breweries in Berlin. Later, in 1809, Napoleon and his troops identified Berliner Weisse as the Champagne of the North. He requested the beer be served w/syrup to cut its extreme level of acidity. Bayrischer Bahnhof’s interpretation is a slightly softer, more mellow version of the “Berliner Weisse” style with a beautiful balance of tartness, fruitness, and sweetness.

Draft at Redlight 1/29/09. Pours very pale straw color with almost no head. Light citrus aroma. Tart citrus flavor that is not overly sour. Light body with lively carbonation.

Bottle. Taste reminds me of lemonade. Pretty good berlinerweisse. Not too sour like some of its counterparts. Good mouthfeel.

Bottle thanks to SoLan!
Opaque straw/gold, fizzy white head that’s gone pretty quickly. Nose is quite tart, lots of green apple and white grape, heavy wheat, and some weak lactic notes. Huge wheat flavor rolls into grape and lemon, then some milk and biscuit, then back into more wheat. Love that! Palate is a little soft and quite short, but given that this one is more grainy and less tart, it suits. Not very hardcore sour, but very enjoyable and "alive." And all at 3%, meaning you can session this one long into a Summer night.

Bottle from Knightly Spirits. Pours a honey-blonde color that is dark and murky with delicious-looking floating sediment. The nose is sweet with orange peel notes. Flavors are puckery, yet refreshing with more citrus, starfruit, and sublte grains. Lively carbonation and lite body. This beer is truly a superb representation of this style and is highly underrated.

Bottle thanks to SoLan, thanks Alan. Poured a lightly hazy, pale yellow color with a half inch white head that faded to a soapy layer. Tart, funky lemon aroma with hints of wheat, lactic acid, and a soft sweetness I can’t identify. Lightly tart, crisp entry leads into a lightly acidic sourness with hints of lemon and sour apple that is curbed by a soft wheatiness that provides a creamy sweetness to offset the tartness. The tart, biting mouthfeel is smoothed out on the finish. I love the style, and this is a decent example. I need to go over to Germany and try some fresh.

Bottle. i don’t get this style. Pale hazy yellow. Malty and lemony aroma is followed by a super tart and sour lemon flavor with some background malt. I really dont enjoy this.

In the tiny bottle from HyVee CB. Pours a hazy bright yellow with a thick white head that dies very fast. Aroma of sauerkraut and lemons. Has a pleasant mild tartness that is not offensive at all. Lemon lime taste with a big salty palate. Tart on the tongue. This is a very good summer beer. Tart dry green apples. Very dry pear at the end. My 2800th beer rated.

Pours a very pale gold color, with a small white head that does’t last. Has yeats clouds swirling around lazily. Taste is very light and refreshing - funky yeast, lemon, grass, wheat, and a slight cereal note to go along with a mildly acidic sournes. Lively carbonation, dry finish, thin body. Far better than I expected, this is very enjoyable.
