Commercial Description:
Huguenots may have originated the style as they traveled through France to Flanders, having first mentioned it in the 1600s. During their time, there were said to be seven hundred weissbier breweries in Berlin. Later, in 1809, Napoleon and his troops identified Berliner Weisse as the Champagne of the North. He requested the beer be served w/syrup to cut its extreme level of acidity. Bayrischer Bahnhof’s interpretation is a slightly softer, more mellow version of the “Berliner Weisse” style with a beautiful balance of tartness, fruitness, and sweetness.

On draft at Redlight. Pours a pale yellow with a frothy white head. Brent did not have a bowl to serve it in, so a glass had to do. Slightly sour and acidic with a nice fruity lemon aroma. Taste is light fruity and lemony with just a hint of sourness. Finishes dry and clean. Very tasty.

On draft at Redlight. Cloudy yellow, with some funky lemon in the nose. A light and watery tart lemon flavor with a slight sourness. Nice and light.

Bottle - Beautiful slightly hazy pale golden body, very little sparkle, huuuge lasting white head; Very fine super, super elegant nose, superb balance between light sweetness and light acid; The body is very fine as well, thin elegant texture and a very fine bubbled carbonation, superb balance with a fine acid touch; It evolves fine into a long finish with a very little unfitting grain aroma, otherwise it has the same elegance and finish as the rest of the beer. Super beautiful, super fine and truly amazing!

Draft @ Redlight. Very pale yellow with a light haziness and smallish head. Very lightly soured, with a hint of locker room, nose. Mild flavor. Light palate, almost feels like a lemon soda. Light and dry crackery malts. Medium degree of tartness.

Pours a gold color with a foamy white head. Aroma of hops and some lactic acid, also some yeast. Taste starts very sour, and finishes very bland, with a chalky texture. ArmEd might like this one, but I can’t finish it.

(10/28/08) Bottle drank at my hostel in San Francisco. Hazy pale yellow-golden color with a medium white head. Aroma of lactic acid, some green apple and some citrus. Sourish flavor, with a bit of grainy notes, muesli with granola, some sweetness and some fruitiness. Rather light-bodied. OK but something is a bit too strange even for this odd style.

11.2 oz. bottle. Poured hazy, light straw with some splotches of white lace. Lots of coriander, lemon and wheat in the nose. Very acidic lemon peel flavor with yeasty aftertaste. Extremely thin body. Difficult to drink. Very interesting brew.

Bottle, John’s Grocery, Iowa City, Iowa. Gold with a little skiff of white bubbles. Intense spicy honey nose, filled out with a bit of late season apples. Flavor is ice tea with a little squeeze of lemon. Pinch of salt in the finish. Fun little beer.
