ClarkVV (3547), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Nov 7, 2007 Fresh bottle (well, imported one or two months ago) drunk on 10/19/07 Leaving most of the sediment behind (is this like a hefe-weizen? I mean are you supposed to mix the yeast in? I dont even do that with hefe-weizens anymore, I just hate the thought of adding a bland, doughy substance in to a beer, especially one that is supposed to be crisp and refreshing), the beer appears a medium-golden orange, with a quickly receding white head and no lacing. I must say, they just about nailed this beer when brewing it, because the commercial description is dead on. Fruitiness, much more than usual, is brightly apparent on the beginning. Apricots and even some lightly sweet peaches. Vanilla through the middle and finally the lactic acid emerges, though rather timid but lingering on due to the lack of much else (obviously the malt is pretty light at this gravity). Apples and tartness collect by the end, but it’s not really sour or anything. Medium strength, no flaws, alcohol. Vanilla and apple skins show the interchange of malt and acid, but some softer fruit notes surface on the end, especially due to the very low, easygoing carbonation. Lightly watery, even a touch salty and with bland wheat and yeast. It’s enough to adhere to the style, but I’d hardly call it deeply quenching and only borderline tart. But, I can’t very well denounce the beer, as this is obviously intended by the brewers. But then the question, why make a softer, mellow berliner weisse? If you don’t want a true berliner weisse, drink a hefe weizen or a low alcohol weisse.
douglas88 (828), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Oct 5, 2008 Bottle thanks to Eric. Pours a cloudy yellow color with a small, almost no head. The aroma is fairly sweet; lots of honey and grains, and some light lemon notes. The flavor was much tarter; loads of lemon, acidic and citrus flavors. Some balance achieved by the sweet honey and malt flavors, lots of grains. Very interesting. Quite acidic but also very drinkable and smooth. NobleSquirrel (688), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 26, 2008 Bottle from West Lakeview. Pours a very pale straw yellow. Fluffy head that goes away. Nose is distinctly lemon, no barnyard at all (which it shouldn’t have), A little musty yeast and grain. Taste is actually sweet. It has a lactic taste in the front, but finishes thin and watery, which is disappointing. Far from over top, has a touch of skunkiness to the flavor as well. Kinda like a pale lager with lemon juice in it... Okay. markwise (287), Satellite of Love, Florida, USA Sep 24, 2008 Pours a straw yellow-gold with a small oily white head. Cleanses the palate- I had no syrup. Smells acidic with a tinge of citrus. An exemplar of the style. I can see this one as a palate cleanser, but not as enjoyable as other ales. VitaminR (281), Colorado, USA Sep 12, 2008 Very doughy and barnyard tart nose. Lemony yellow color, hazy, small head. Mild tartness, nutty funkiness, not much sweetness or bitterness to speak of. Light carbonation, thin body, easy elegant finish. Very unique beer, almost like "gueze light", quite interesting. piscator34 (942), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Sep 6, 2008 Bottled sample via radiomgb. Very pale yellow in colour with moderate carbonation. Aromas of red-skinned apples and malted wheat. A bit fruit forward in the mouth, with more apple and additional lemon and a bit of wheat. Somewhat tart, but not over the top. Fairly refreshing, but a little too fruity for me.
