Commercial Description:
Leipziger Gose is a top-fermenting wheat beer {60% wheat, 40% barley malt} with coriander, salt, and lactic acid bacteria added in the boil. It is a 4.6% alc/vol eclectic beer whose name evokes a close relationship to the renowned Lambic/Geuze breweries in the Valley Senne nearby Brussels, Belgium.

Bottle at Winking Lizard - Pours cloudy amber with a short offwhite head and lots of lace also quite a few floaters in this one.. Aromas of bread, smoke, caramel, and a little toasted malt. Flavor is smoke, yeast, toasted malts, caramel, and a little tartness at the finish. Light body with pretty lively carbonation.

A very strange beer that seemed to be a little of several styles mixed together. It is called a wheat in its commerical description, and it had a slightly doughy aroma and hazy golden color of wheats. However, I also detected the citrusy aroma and hazy orangeish color found in Pale Ales. The flavor was a salty mixture of these styles, and the palate resembled a slightly muted version of the sour-sweet finish of Flemish Sours. An odd combination, but actually a pretty good beer.

Bought this is Vegas shared it with Presario and I think he described it best as a salty water wit. Enjoyable and interesting. Page 191 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide only 380 out 500 Classic Brews to go.

The aroma was citrusy with a strong orange and lemony presence when first poured. Wheat was notable and coriander as well. The beer poured lightly hazy pale straw with a white moussy head which rose tall and lasted forever to lace the glass. The flavor was light and refreshing with a slight lactic flavor coupled with wheat. The tartness brought to mind flavors of berries with some light orange and coriander spice. The body was medium or just below and with the wheat and the fairly high carbonation level the beer was creamy on the palate. Overall a nice, refreshing, lightly tart beer. The best bottle of Gose I have tried. All other bottles were smaller and not as tasty as this one. 1 pint 9.4 ounce flip top bottle (as pictured).

Bizarr-looking brown bottle from Florian’s. Gusher of a bottle! Wow this beer is tough to pour.. anyway... Bright yellow slightly hazy translucent body with a couple of inches of white head that dissipate over not too long, leaving a little lacing. Smells sweet, citrusy, yeasty, fruity, pithy, and spicy. Pith, yeast and spice characterize the flavor, Somewhat sour. Kind of aqueous in both flavor and mouthfeel. Cleaner finish. Light-bodied. The sourness hurts the drinkability somewhat. Unlike any other beer I’ve ever had... Similar to a witbier or maybe some Unibroue. A funky unique beer that takes a little getting used to, but grows on you after a while. Glad to have tried it.

2/07/2007: Leipziger Gose is an interesting, but unremarkable beer. On top of that, it’s somewhat difficult to describe. It has a hazy yellowish color with a diminishing white head. The aroma and flavor have hints of wheat and lemon, but I don’t pick up on hardly any spices (e.g. coriander). This beer is refreshingly dry which can probably be attributed to the salt base. The finish is also dry and slightly acidic. The body is light to medium with a mild amount of carbonation. Leipziger Gose is pretty drinkable, but not something I would necessarily seek out again based on this particular bottle...

16.9 oz bottle from the Winking Lizard Tavern (Crosswoods) in Columbus, Ohio. I’ve seen this beer at stores before and it’s only about $2.79 for a 200 mL bottle. However, I’d probably pass on this beer even at that low price! Rating: 5 3 5 3 11 = 2.7.

10/01/2008: Leipziger Gose has the appearance of a darker Wit beer: hazy tarnished brass with a foamy off-white head and a very mild level of carbonation. The wheaty aroma has just a hint of orange and spice. The flavor is refreshingly sour, but no where near puckering. Actually, it is very well balanced and has a really nice balance of creamy wheat malt, fruit, subtle orange and spice, and a slight sourness (more like a slightly sweet lemon flavor than anything). This beer is super refreshing and very interesting. It is even quite sessionable (especially at 4.6% abv). I really like and enjoy this beer for what it is...

Unique 1 Pint 4.6 FL. OZ. flip-top bottle (4.6% Alc./Vol.) shared by Tmoney99 at the weekly Party Source gathering. Thanks Tom! Rating: 7 4 7 3 15 = 3.6.

750 ml @ Brickstore. Pleasent aroma, wheat, citrus, some lemon zest. Pours a hazy yellow. I was expecting something some what harsh, but it is very very tame. Its a very easy drinking beer, some lemon citrus flavor, some sourness, and hint of the salt, but not much. A great beer but alittle too high of a price, although the bottle might be worth it alone.

16.9oz bottle. Slightly hazy orange/amber with a large head. Fair lacing. Aroma is wheat, spices and musty leaves. Light body. Taste is spicy with a definite salt base. Pretty refreshing, really. Especially when you consider the salt. Beatcha - mattie.
