Commercial Description:
Leipziger Gose is a top-fermenting wheat beer {60% wheat, 40% barley malt} with coriander, salt, and lactic acid bacteria added in the boil. It is a 4.6% alc/vol eclectic beer whose name evokes a close relationship to the renowned Lambic/Geuze breweries in the Valley Senne nearby Brussels, Belgium.

Bottle on 9/10/06. Large white head develops from a cludy gold pour, leaving some nice lace following a slow recessin. Aroma is fainlty yeasty with notes of hay and grass. Light to medium body accompanies a fine tingly efervescence. . There is a distinct salty background as well as some fruity esters and a tad of spiciness.. A vague, ill defined bitterness finishes it off. Unusual, and I had a diffcult time getting past the salty character, although my brother, who chared it with me, found i refreshing and drinkable.

[2nd Low Countries RateBeer meeting] Aroma of yeast, wheat, citrus and some dust. Quite nice aroma. Hazy, orange coloured with not much head. Taste is quite sweet, citric, some tartness and some wood.

Pours a deep golden, touch of orange with diminishing white head. Has a dirty earthy scent of barnyard, cheap pasta sauce, and a drop of yeast. It’s bubbly, with an awkward flavor of salty hay, dirty earth, and a slight tartness. A bit bland all together, but still a weird flavor is present. Didn’t pick up on the coriander. Not horrible, not good.

Pours cloudy amber into an English pint. Bright white micro head recedes to slightly more than a film. Sour yeast notes. Flat with upfront salt water which turns sour and then a lasting metallic malt finish.

Pours a rather hazy yellowish light brown with a very ephemeral standard white head. There’s are some small chunks that might be either bacterial colonies or coriander capsule remnants. The nose is unique. Initially, I smell yogurt, or perhaps its the Lactobacillus? Some light light malt, some light vanilla and a touch of fruit (apple, lime). The palate is rather thin, though I think this serves the (refreshing) style of this beer well. The carbonation is on the low side. The flavors are subdued, but very unique. The lactic acid and fruitiness shines through a very light grainy (see wheaty) malt. The spices are light, providing nice filler with the sour flavors. The salt becomes noticable as the main flavors dissipate providing something really refreshing. I’d prefer this to Gatorade when playing ultimate on a hot day.

Not the best looking beer, a very hazy pale orange with what appears to be a lot of carbonation. It has the general wheat beer smell but is more sour, and big citrus. The salt is somewhat noticeable in the flavor, at least a little bit- saltwatery. Tastes fruity and sour. Its pretty refreshing, but I think the sourness might keep me from drinking too much of it, to some extent at least.

Very unique bottle from Super Saver. Hazy gold pour with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of citrus, huge lime, hops, and some yeast notes. The flavor is tart, very citric and limey, with subdued spice and floral notes. Gets tarter as it warms.

Mineral salts and coriander, like seltzer and a Quebec style spiced beer. Really woke up the taste buds, and went with food. Needed much water after. Very foamy head, light copper coloured body. Middle grainy mouthfeel.I had to try this style, thanks for sending jpm30.
