Commercial Description:
Leipziger Gose is a top-fermenting wheat beer {60% wheat, 40% barley malt} with coriander, salt, and lactic acid bacteria added in the boil. It is a 4.6% alc/vol eclectic beer whose name evokes a close relationship to the renowned Lambic/Geuze breweries in the Valley Senne nearby Brussels, Belgium.

Gorgeous bottle purchased from the bar at Max’s in Baltimore. Clear, dull golden body with medium, fine carbonation and a dense, filmy but lasting, white head. Aroma of lemons, biscuits, pale nutty malt, and sea water. Flavor has a nice citrus and briny blend with an Asian flair. Has properties of mild herbal tea and fresh buttery grain plus light honey sweetness. Nice subdued complexity; the saltiness is subtle but adds an interesting dimension. Fun to try, but not jaw-dropping. The bottle really is the best part.

Bottle... Murky, straw-colored ale with a small, fizzy, white head. The malty, earthy aroma is of coriander, butterscotch, oak, cereal grains and citrus fruit. The perfectly balanced flavor is tangy with notes of citrus fruit and white wine. Light-bodied and watery with fizzy carbonation. Finishes a little Flemish and dry, but mostly watery.

My bottle wasn’t nearly as interesting as the one pictured. That might be the only reason to buy another one of these. Poured out with a large creamy white head over a sparkling clear light amber body. Some malt and hop in the aroma. The flavor and mouth feel depart from the usual here and I don’t quite know what to make of it. It has a rather full mouth feel at the taste and then thins as it gets to the swallow. The sweetness that starts fades to a slight saltiness in the finish. The second pour into the glass was much more salt dominated in the flavor profile than the first pour. Interesting and different.

Bott.e Brown cloudy pour with no head. A very malty aroma. Tastes almost like pre-boil malt. Finish fades very fast.

A light copper color goes with the soft fluffy head. Nose much like a wheat/wit beer but more soft, light spicey notes. Initial taste is sweet and somewhat tart. Fruity and spices balance out the flavor, not much salt detected. Has a interesting aftertaste dry, acidic and now the salt comes through. I wish mine would have come in the botte in the picture. Thanks Papago for bringing this in.

Orange gold pour with lots of carbonation and bubbles. THe head is white and soapy and diminishes quickly leaving a very attractive lacing on the glass. The aroma is tart and citrusy with a touch of funk. The flavor is very interesting with upfront dry sourness but a very noticable flavor of sweet malt that lingers long into the finish. I don’t notice the salt. A very interesting beer to say the least.

Brown bottle from Armanetti’s, Mundelein, IL. Hazy dark orange hued having small white diminishing head with spare lacing. Some scary-looking brown chunky matter (yeast?) on bottom. Lovely aroma of slightly sweet fruity ester (grape?). Medium bodied that starts with sharp, tart, slight sweet malty flavor with hints of coriander flavor and finishes slightly dry with sharp, tart flavor of short duration. No saltiness detected at all. A nice tasty beer.

Bottle. Hazy golden beer with a big white head. Slightly sour, spicey aroma. Slightly tart flavor with some banana and low malts. Light, refreshing flavors. A bit of citrus. Easy drinking. Lactic acid definately present, but would have missed the wheat - not the typical wheat bite.
