Commercial Description:
Leipziger Gose is a top-fermenting wheat beer {60% wheat, 40% barley malt} with coriander, salt, and lactic acid bacteria added in the boil. It is a 4.6% alc/vol eclectic beer whose name evokes a close relationship to the renowned Lambic/Geuze breweries in the Valley Senne nearby Brussels, Belgium.

Draught at the brewpub. Hazy golden coloured. Notes of citrus fruits, pineapple and spices in the aroma. Sourish and fruity flavour with a salty finish. Sparkling. Funny.

Poured a cloudy white. Aroma of coriander and lemon. Taste is acidic with a touch of banana. Salt can be tasted in the finish, which doesn’t seem to add anything of importance to the beer. Refreshing and different.

Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma is a little salty and grainy. Flavor has notes of grain, citrus/lemon, salt, faint spice and light sourness. The body is medium to light bodied with lively carbonation. Didn’t care for this one too much.

500ml bottle. Interesting aroma, faintly sour and citric with traits of wheat and grain, some doughy bread as well. Medium golden amber color, quite hazy and lightly sedimented with a foamy, lasting head. Malty, wheaty flavor profile, lightly citric with traces of lemon and spice, some tartness, faint saltiness and mustiness on the dry finish. Bubbly mouthfeel, clean and light on the palate. Refreshing and different.

Well, my bottle was not the long necked funky kind, but the beer was unusual nonetheless. Who needs a beer purity law ... let’s through in some coriander. Definitely a wheat beer, definitely the spicey clovey kind, not the sweet banana fruity kind. Beautiful orange apricot appearance, with a white head that disappears very quickly and very little fizzy mouthfeel. Dry finish, with a lingering saltiness. Not at all what I expected; with the low alcohol, low sugar, and limited coriander it is not at all like a Belgian coriander wheat. But with the low alcohol, dry finish, and residual saltiness it is a great beer on a hot summer day ater an afternoon on the golf course. Don’t let the slightly lambic nose through you off, this is an easy beer to drink.

Hazy golden orange color with a modest soft head and very little carbonation. Aroma was apple cidery with some coriander. Tasted tart with wheat and touch of orange peel-quite dry with a distinct underlying saltiness. Short finish with a lightly bitter aftertaste. Different and well worth trying.

Pours a hazy copper with a lacy off-white head. Smell is spicy and lightly salty and sweet wheat malt. Taste is grainy wheat with underlying spice. Saltiness doesn’t come through until later, it’s cumulative. The more you drink, the more saltiness on the palate. While the beer is smooth and creamy in the mouth, the saltiness builds and makes this brew less than drinkable, at least more than one bottle at a time. But a unique experience that I would recommend and I will indulge in again.
