Commercial Description:
This top-fermented, unfltered Wheat Bock beer is the counterpart to Bayern’s famous Doppelbock Lager. Bayern’s only decoction-brewed beer, the recipe uses five types of malt (Wheat, Pilsener, Carmel, Munich and Chocolate), and has an o.g. of > 17 % Plato, producing a stout 7.5 % Alc. by Vol. As with all Bayern wheat beers, Face Plant surprises with its complex flavor. German Hallertauer Perle hops give this hearty Bock beer a perfectly balanced sweetness.

Pours a medium brown, with a tan head. Very smooth and drinkable, with notes of carmel and a touch of sweetness. The balance is good, and the flavor fairly complex. This is a new brew and I tried a sample at the Bayern brewery today, and then picked up a six pack at Worden’s in Missoula. Not widely distributed yet...hopefully it will be. Thumbs up.

Dark brown with very small tan head. Caramel with hint of fruit on the nose. Flavor was fruity with light roast, mostly carmalized sugar. Lighter body with a crisp finish.

Draft. Pours a deep dark brown with light brown head. Some retention and lacing. Nose of tropical fruit, banana and candied caramel malts. The flavor is similar with the fruitiness dominating. A sligt hop twang in the finish before sweetness lingers on the palate. Nice but some of the fruitiness is surprising for the style.

On tap at the PDX Green Dragon. Pours dark brown with a small khaki head. Fruity nose, banana esters, bready caramel malts, fruity hops. Flavors of banana and berries up front, good hopped finish to balance. Estery and crisp towards the finish, bit of a yeasty taste to it. I really enjoyed this one from Bayern.
