jake65 (1657), Williston, North Dakota, USA Nov 4, 2009 At Bayern: Pours a beautiful chestnut brown with a small, off-white head. Sweet and inviting aroma. Taste is more roasty and floral hop filled, but a little malty in the end. Nutty, bur more sweet than anything. Not as roasty or smokey as I might have expected, but still enjoyable. BuckeyeBoy (1635), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 22, 2009 Brought back from Toby’s great Montana Growler round up. Pours out a amber topped with a sand head. Aroma was of nut brown and roast malts. Taste was more of the nuts along with some sweetness. ditmier (1019), Boise, Idaho, USA Jul 28, 2009 10th rating of this brew...Growler - Thanks Toby! - Pours thin an dk dk brown with a small tan lead...aroma is burnt wood and a bit of lager skunk, roast...flavour is similar, with some light grain and grass keeping this on the thinner side...decent smoke and toast, with lively carbonation and a malty finish.... BillKismet (1894), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 10, 2009 Chestnut brown with a firm 1" thick lightly browned head. Light, characteristic Schwarz roastiness floats from the glass, however the body mostly lacks the roast component and just tastes like a German lager with a hint of roast malt bitterness. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Aug 20, 2008 Updated: Aug 21, 2008On tap at Green Dragon in PDX--Poured a brown-black thinish body with a mild cream head. Nutty, sweet, smooth, mildly spicily hopped. Sessionable and crisp. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Aug 19, 2008 On tap at the PDX Green Dragon. Pours dark red, close to black, small tan head. This was a really pour schwarzbier, felt like they just took their pils and added some chocolate malt. Very grassy and grainy like a pils, but with just the slightest roasted malt character at the front. Lacked the silky smoothness and maltiness of a good schwarz. douglas88 (1555), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Aug 2, 2008 On tap at the Wolf Pack in West Yellowstone. Pours a dark brown with a light off-white head. The aroma was roasted malts and nuts. The flavor was a full and smooth dark fruits, some toasted malts, and some nut bread. Not bad. kyzr (1119), Belgrade, Montana, USA Jan 25, 2008 Dark pour with thin creamy off-white head. Very much a roasted malty nose. Flavor is roasted caramel with some fruit, a touch of hops. Medium body with light carbination. Finish is clean and dry.
