Tap at yardhouse. Liked it a little bit more than most here, but wasn’t great. Something just didn’t go together. (Rerate; liked it a bit more; bumped from a 2.9 to 3.1 Thought the chocolate presence was tastier than I remembered).

From a 22 oz. bomber bottle with an unnotched freshness date. Poured a dark coffee brown with a small foamy head that quickly settled into a thin lacing. Aromas of chocolate and coffee, grapefruity, and a light nuttiness. Moderate carbonation and a softly crisp, watery smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel. Tastes of roasted coffee with a light chocolate pour, sugary, followed by grapefruity hoppiness, very soft bitterness, a little toasted nuttiness and a watery malty finish. A bit watery overall, a decent porter, but far from a great one.

Really smells a lot more like coffee than chocolate, not so good. The flavor is thanck and sweet and has way too much malt and coffee characters. Really a disappointment.

Bottle (650ml). Either from my secret santa or Liquorama - not sure. Deep cola-red pour with a small tan bubbly head. Aroma is sweet, oily and nutty - like lightly roasted chestnuts - some chocolate and light hops; not horrible. Taste is chocolate malt roasty, some nutshell bitteness, soda fountain syrup sweetness in the finish. Very light body, watery - odd carbonation, not much of it, but still too much, quick finish, slightly "off" aftertaste. Not very good, but goes down easy - more like a soda than a beer.

Bottle; from Bevmo; Nose of butter and coffee; transparent brown with a small beige head; flavor was a little coffee, chocolate, and butter!

Bottle. Dark mahogony beer with a light cocoa head. Chocolate aroma with slight roast. Roast and chocolate flavor. Slight backing bitterness. Doesn’t quite go together - could be smoother. Medium-light bodied.

Dark brown with a small head. Astringent, definately non-chocolate aroma. Very sour and nowhere near anything that could be called good. The flavor. My god. This foulness cannot be called a porter.

The body was very dark brown with a ruby red highlighted edge. The head was light khaki colored. The aroma was chocolate and strawberries with some tobacco. The taste was chocolate chip pancakes. There was also coffee and soybeans. Very little carbonation in the finish. A nice porter, I thought.
