carboloader (300), Houston, Texas, USA Aug 3, 2008 From big bottle. If you just look at this one when poured, it’s beautiful. Pours huge head that takes forever before dissipating -- like over half the glass no matter how slowly it’s poured. This could be a good or bad sign depending. Read on. Plan to wait a while. Seriously, like 15 minutes for it to dissipate. Maybe it got shaken up along the way somewhere? The head is so thick that it looks like a rootbeer float. The ale itself is a beautiful cloudy amber (no floaties in my sample). One of the most beautiful looking PAs I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, one taste and it’s clear that something is off here. Flavor is extremely sour and tart -- like lemon juice was added. It is crisp, but far too tart for a decent PA. I might pour the remainder. Clearly this one is the result of a severe bacterial infection. I’m not impressed. texasbartender (151), Sugarland, Texas, USA Jun 26, 2008 I have to admit that I was a little scared of this beer when I first poured it. The pale golden beer is very hazy with large chunks floating in it. The head is thin a white with little staying power. The nose is very sour with hints of citrus. The body is highly carbonated with a big sour flavor and hints of citrus with a slightly bitter finish. ABUSEDGOAT (1882), California, USA Jun 12, 2008 Amber orange color, moderate head, decent lacing and retention. Aroma is lightly grapefruity, grass, sweet pale malts. Medium to light body, moderate to low bitterness. Forgettable. ilovedarkbeer (690), Dallas, Texas, USA May 10, 2008 Yeah it’s bad. Cloudy orange brown color with some floating particles and a soapy like head. Nose is sour and soapy. Taste is citrus and grapefruit with a bitter finish and some pine notes left in the mouth. I poured the last half out. soulgrowl (52), Kitakyushu-shi, Japan May 7, 2008 Aroma: Caramel malts and citric hops. Leaves and pine cones are detectable. Smells like a well-rounded, eager-to-please ale.
Appearance: Looks pretty good, a translucent orange-amber color just a touch darker than Johnny Walker Red Label. Lousy head, but otherwise an attractive brew.
Flavor: Very woody and a little herbal. Good hop profile that blossoms in your mouth. Pronounced smack of Spanish peanuts and just a drop of coffee. I like it!
Palate: A little flat; this could use some work, but it’s still good.
Overall: Very flavorful, quite drinkable. Who’d have thought such an appealing brew could emerge from the vast blandness of Orange County? :)
