Toasty malt, caramel with a touch of raisin on the nose. Fairly standard caramel malt flavours with some nuttiness and a grassy bitterness. Medium body, medium carbonation with a fairly short finish and mouthfeel. bobinlondon (842), Harrow, Greater London, England
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 30, 2009 Bottle from Sainsbury’s. Amber with off white head. Fresh delicate malt and well balanced despite limited hop content. I enjoyed this. EFC1878 (292), Manchester, Greater Manchester, England

Thin white head. Chocolate malt aroma. Tastes mild bitterness, a little fruit and a decent sweet/dry finish. Not bad, not great but might make a decent cask ale. hughie (3069), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 27, 2009 Bottle in Sainsburys Festival ’09. Amber with a white head. Lovely old fashioned malt aroma like passing a backstreet brewery in a provincial town in the 1950’s. After that the taste is a bit ordinary: some caramel sweetness, a little sourness and some bitterness. Not bad. But not very exciting. SilkTork (4174), Rochester, Kent, England
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 20, 2009 500ml bottle from Sainsbury’s - one of the 15 finalists. Pleasant chocolate notes in a clean malt base with a moderate to firm hop finish which lingers. It’s a decent enough ale, put together in an appropriate way, though lacks excitement, character or the pleasure of a fresh quality brew. The crystal malts gives this a musty note. OK, but doesn’t set my toes on fire. berkshirejohn (1826), Bracknell, Berkshire, England

Copper with a loose white head; tarry, fruity aroma; sharp fruity flavour, soft, soapy mouth-feel, followed by a short bitter burst, then a gentler malty finish. A good bitter. harrisoni (6828), Ashford, Kent, England

Some yeast character on aroma, some malty fruit. Bit lacking in body in the middle. Short lived bitterness on the finish. Aroma is ok, but then it fades after that. rauchbier (3002), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 9, 2009 Bottle, from Sainsburys Hessle. Copper bronze, thick but shortlived white head and gentle condition. Low toffee and berry fruitiness in the nose, initial tangy fruitiness in the mouth but with a developing bitterness and underlying sweet biscuity notes, briefly bitter finish tinged with more fruitiness.
