lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA Aug 23, 2006 Pours an opaque brown with hints of ruby. Zero head and zero lacing. Smells very sweet. Sweet dark malt and milky chocolate aromas.
Taste is less sweet, better balanced than the aroma. The sweetness is still there but balanced nicely with some roasty malt flavors. Bitter chocolate and undertones of coffee. Low level bitterness prevails in the finish, sweetness in the aftertaste. Nicely balanced, I feared it might be too sweet for me. Nice porter, worthy for a pint or two if you make it to Orono. BigBen2120 (558), Gardiner(52 miles from Allagash), Maine, USA Jan 27, 2006 Brown opaque body with tan quickly depleting head. Tastes somewhat sweet, with a smoked component and coffee. Not bad, but not as well ballanced as it could be I felt... Still worth a try... ruggedman (429), Portland, Maine, USA Jul 2, 2004 Updated: Mar 1, 2006This is one of the better local beers i’ve had. The porter is more stout than their stout, which is a sad indicator for the stout. Regardless it has a great initial full flavor with a nice trailing aftertaste. This beer is slightly sweet, and by far the best offering to come out of the bear brew pub yet. If your ever around Orono you need to try this beer.
