This is a great American stout, which does not appear to suffer from the inconsistency that marks some of Bear Republic’s other efforts.
Pours deep brown/black, with a smallish tan head. High ABV is not apparent upon taste, but manifests itself somewhat later. It’s Guinness in a bad mood, frankly -- and I mean that as a compliment. Solid, solid effort. ljay6880 (147), , Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 17, 2009 poured it into a pint glass and was impressed with the rich dark color and an inviting off white creamy foam. pleasent, non-intrusive aroma. no bitter after taste and is smooth for the palate. taste of molasses and toffee, very pleasent. great overall beer. milljam (584), Norman, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 15, 2009 Although the aroma is lacking a bit, the flavor is big. Molasses, dark toffee, roasted coffee, and brown sugar are most prevalent. Aroma is a bit weak, with only small hints of the flavor coming through. Finish is moderately bitter with a smooth creamy mouthfeel. A nice stout overall. kimcgolf (832), Dacula, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | Apr 14, 2009 Pours from the tap to a pretty chocolate brown with a thick tan head that lingers well and leaves good lacing. Unfortunately, the rest of the beer did not quite live up to the appearance. Nose and taste were both a sweet chocolate-toffee, but were also slightly muted. The really dissappointing feature was the mouthfeel for this thin-boided beer, which unfortunately led to a short watery finish.
Not a bad beer, but not more of a chocolate stout than an Impy, and for that, I’ll take Rogue. lumpsowers (252), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 12, 2009 Black chocolatey pour, no head, and light lace. Alcoholic nutty aroma. Thick, nutty and smokey, not bad but a little flat. Alcohol comes out strongly, A little bit of sour comes in at the end. Slightly disappointing, but greatly improved as it warmed.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 12, 2009 Bomber. Pours a nice, dark, rich color, with nigh on a full finger of solid, light yellowish-brown head. Aroma is a bit muted, but roasted malt and cream. Flavor is solid, though not as full as I had hoped, dare I say Guiness-esque? Notes of molasses and sweet sugar are present. Almost no finish, and the alcohol is hard to detect. It’s a fine brew, but not as strong as I like in an Imperial. MeisterBrew (138), Cheyenne, Wyoming, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 4, 2009 Bottle. Poured a very dark brown with a small tan head. Good lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malt, and a slight sweetness. Flavor was pretty much like the aroma... Seemed a ’little’ thin compared to other stouts. But I really liked this one. It just seemed to come together ’right’.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 3, 2009 Pours brownish/black with thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Taste of minimal chocoalte and coffee. Was good but disappointing because I was expecting more. Light mouthfeel for the style.
