Feb 17, 2009 Bottle thanks to MrChopin!! Aroma has notes of coffee, dark dried fruits, dark chocolate, molasses, cream. Dark black with a large tan rocky-foamy head that lasted and left fantastic lace. Flavor is chocolaty with a nice roasted bitterness. Palatte is medium bodied and watery soft. Wow, very very good. The body lends itself to quaffing and the flavors are very full and well crafted. This Impy feels very well crafted even though it’s on the light end of the Imp spectrum. One of the best looking beers I’ve seen.

Feb 17, 2009 Bottle thanks to my neo-geo.com secret santa Kiselgof. Dark black with two thick fingers of light sticky lacing and a nice tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, burnt malt. Taste is bitter chocolate, dense coffee and black malt.

Feb 15, 2009 Updated: Feb 16, 2009Pours deep brown/black with tan head. Aromas of dark roasted malt and some sweet chocolate. Flavor is mostly the same, with the dark roasted malt being the dominant taste. Also some coffee and definite hoppiness (especially in the finish), which adds some nice balance. Fairly thin - not as heavy or oily as some of the other Russian imperial stouts I’ve tried.

Feb 14, 2009 Smells mostly of coffee. Somewhat floral aroma. Looks nice enough with a deep black color and a moderate head, some lace. Flavor is largley hoppy and full of bitteness which lends itself to a delightful coffee character. Very fresh and nice, with a good hoppy character but for an imerial stout it is sort of one dimensional, no less delicious.... but very simple.

Feb 12, 2009 Aroma and appearance are tops here, this is a beautiful looking and smelling brew, but when you get to the taste, while it is interesting and a change of pace, it just doesn’t attract me as much as some other RIS. It was interesting to try once, but I would probably not go back.

Feb 9, 2009 Updated: Sep 18, 2009Bottle from Vintage Estate in Ohio, has a very black pour with a small tan head cover on the beer, aromas of dark roasted malt, chocolate, some licorice on the nose, some sweet chocolate cake fragrances, I got flavors of dark roasted malt, chocolate and sweet chocolate, a touch of licorice flavor, pretty much the nose and palate are the same, mouth feel is ok but not like your heavy big boy Impys that load up the tongue, has a good nose and an ok palate of flavors.

Feb 8, 2009 Nose is moderate-high roasted malt aroma, hints of dark chocolate and coffee grounds, slight resin, touch of fruit esters and alcohol. Jet black hue, large and persistent tan craggy head, opaque clarity, soapy lacing. Flavor is roasted malts (chocolate and coffee), caramel sweetness, moderate hop bitterness, low grassy/resin tones, dry finish with low alcohol waming. Medium full-bodied, smooth creamy texture, moderate carbonation. Solid and balanced American stout with linger hop bitterness and dominating roasted malts.

Feb 6, 2009 Bottle from Kegs & Barrels in McKinney, Tx. Pours a deep, dark brown, almost black, with ruby hues and tan head. Aroma of dark roast, some chocolate, hoppy. Flavor of dark roast, some chocolate, hoppy and bitter. Mouthfeel is medium-heavy body with high carbonation. Overall, something was off, I thought it was ok, but not great.
