Commercial Description:
Big Bear, as the name implies, is a hefty, black, Russian Imperial-style stout. This strong stout boasts a rich, caramel sweetness lavished by a robust, deep-roasted heartiness you can sink your teeth into... Big Bear's bold flavors are produced using a blend of Belgian and English roasted barley and crystal malts. Some unique flavors come forth in the malt character...Louisiana sweet molasses and dark brown sugar. This dark brew is well hopped with Chinook and Cascade hops, which are somewhat, masked by the malt. This is a balanced strong brew boasting an ABV of 8.1% that can creep up on you, "so don't get mauled". It has a dry roasted quality that masks its high alchohol content, so drink responsibly.

Black thick pour with a thin off white head. Roasted grain, chocolate, toffee and hop aroma. Smooth malt body with lots of chocolate, roasted grains and dark fruit. Has a fair amount of aggressive hop in the taste, too. Damn good stout.

22oz bottle. Black with a tan head, good lacing. Good mouth feel. Roasted barley with a good hop balance. Did someone say molasses? Yea, I agree. Quite nice.

(22 oz. bottle from Kappy’s, cellared for 8 mos. after purchase) Pours very, very dark brown with a thin tan head that mostly stays. Aroma of big dark chocolate and sweet dark fruits. Mouthfeel smooth and sticky, very lightly fizzy. Just about the right amount of heft for the style and almost velvety. Light weepy, webby lacing and a syrupy film. Flavor just about matches the aroma with big dark, bittersweet chocolate and dark fruit notes. Some hints perhaps of rum, brandy or molasses. Slightly hot. Lingering bitter dark chocolate aftertaste. A nice Imp Stout.

Black with a brown head. Very simple imperial stout that is basically just roasted and hoppy with light notes of caramell both in flavour and aroma. Smells inviting but flavour doesnt deliver near the amount of flavour I’d expect from the nose and the fact that this is a imperial stout. Ok.

22 ounces at the Bayou. Pours a dark brown color with a nice thick beige head. The aroma is nice; mellow chocolates and malts, coffee too. The flavor is very nice and easy; loads of chocolate, lightly roasted malts, sweet flavors of molasses, earthy and somehow mellow. Very good.

Beautiful black with a tan head. Aroma of roast malt, chocolate and coffee. Flavor is similar with some sweet sugar cane up front and a nice hop finish. Very nice.

Black pour with a brown head. Roasted malt aroma, hint of sweetness. Roasted malt,the flavor has both a sweetness and it is also dry, especially at the end. The dryness accompanies the roasted flavor. A bit creamy, smooth, nice and tasty. Lacing is indicated by each sip.

Tap at browerij lane. Poured black with a thin beige head. Nose hits you with hops and then a rich base with coffee and chocolate and big malt. Ok. I’m ready for a sip. Very hoppy and surprisingly sweet. Molasses and hops carry the flavor. Not getting too much of the coffee and chocolate but it’s rich and has se fruit hints too. Nice. But would prefer more coffee and bitterness
