| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 2, 2008 [Bottle] Pours a deep black but not quite opaque with a fairly large tan head. Aroma is quite roasty with a touch of sweetness, but not a whole lot of hop presence. Flavor is mostly roasted malts with a touch of sweetness. The alcohol is nowhere to be found. There is a bit of astringency and bittersweetness that goes along with the roastiness. Pretty good beer, but lacking the depth of flavors of many other impy stouts. Aquilo (279), California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 27, 2008 This is another picture perfect stout. Opaque black with a thick velvety tan head. Aroma is rich and chocolaty, a bit caramely and a bit fruity as well. I smell some fig and dried apricot. The first thing I notice when I take a sip is how rich and velvety it feels. The flavor is nice and rich as well. It’s chocolaty with some roasted malt flavor, and an herbal bitterness in the finish. All around, this is one heckuva stout. joergen (8635), Frederiksberg, Denmark

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 19, 2008 Very evenly balanced stout that is a lovely pour and very flavorful with licorice, coffee, chocolate and roasted malt. Can just barely detect the molasses as well, which is for the best. Usual stellar effort from Bear Republic. malrubius (1004), Valley Stream, New York, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 18, 2008 22 ounce bottle split in small tulip. Black with lasting tan head and lace. Rich chocolate fig and cinnamon aroma. Roasted chocolate fig licorice cinnamon complex flavors with finishing roasted bitterness. Medium-full body and medium carbo. Nice soft mouthfeel. Nicely complex and delicious. Excellent. (Ok, I have a cold and I can’t taste or smell anything, but I still thought it was excellent.) islay (480), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 11, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Consumed on 10-5-08. Pours dark brown (nearly black) with an amber hue and a large amount of thick, bubbly, slightly uneven, soft tan head. Complex aroma features chocolate, plum, and rose as well as lemon and pine from the hops. Roasted malt flavor features mahogony, leather, dark chocolate, mocha, raisin, and prune juice elements. The hops produce citrus-like effects (lemon and lime especially) as well as pickle brine and a touch of salt, but not in a bad way. Delicious at first, but the taste grows somewhat tiresome and overly sweet upon multiple sips. Tarry, toasty, burnt malt aftertaste. Surprisingly easy to drink and refreshing in the palate. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 10, 2008 22oz bomber. Pours a lighter looking black with a runny/watery look to it. Big, dark brown, fizzy head that dissipates slowly leaving a lot of lacing on the glass. The aroma is very sweet, dominated by malts. Not too complex overall, with hints of nutty roastiness, chocolate, brown sugar, and orange/citrus. Smooth and medium body with lots of carbonation. Taste is initially slightly sweet and then quickly dries. Turns to a roasty, coffee, and chocolate middle. Finishes with a hint of citrus, very dry, and coffee bitter. Overall, I guess this is supposed to be a dry imperial stout, which it does a good job at portraying. Not quite as thick and rich as I like, but I do like the added bitterness this beer brings. Not bad.
