What the hell was I doing all winter? This one is popped when the weather is creeping to 70. Black. Chocolate. Roast. Exactly as I like stouts. And only $3.75 at the shop across the St. Louis river in Illinois. patrick767 (2033), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 16, 2008 bottle - Pours black with a one finger tan head. It has a good aroma of roast malt, coffee, and chocolate. The flavor combines those dark roast malts with sweet chocolate and a good balance of bitterness from ample hops. It’s full bodied though still not as heavy as many imperial stouts. Don’t expect something like the huge American imperial stouts like Dark Lord or Speedway Stout. It does what it does very well though. Excellent brew. ironchefscott (342), portland, Oregon, USA

Details of this brew not holding to memory, it was great fun to drink - I can recall that. The bartender told me it was a stout, but failed to inform me it was an imperial. But "imperial," you can’t really tell. I’d drink this again, and I hope to next time whilst more sober. ketchepillar (480), Viña del Mar, Chile
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 11, 2008 Aroma is a pretty hoppy I suppose, well mainly just that the malt aroma is quite weak. Definitely doesn’t seem imperial. Malt is fairly sweet, but not cloying. Pretty nice roastiness. Full bodied. Carbonation isn’t that great. hillfiiiiire (285), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 11, 2008 Pours mostly black with a nice tan head head. Lots of chocolate in the nose and roasted malts with some not very noticeable hop character. The flavor is really sweet with chocolate. I do notice the hops here more than I do in the aroma. It finishes quite smooth. However, the beer has a rather thin, filmy character. It’s not awful, but not as good as it could be. I definitely expected more out of this beer though. crowderm (285), Recklinghausen, Germany
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 11, 2008 Pours a deep, dark black with a thin tan head. Nice lacing as well. The aroma is mostly of musky, slight smokey dark malt. The flavor hits first with chocolate and coffee, and then fades into a nice sweet, creamy malt sweetness. Is this really 8%? very easy drinking. The mouthfeel is very slightly on the thin side, and slightly over-carbonated, but is pretty good. A nice beer overall. WISEGUY572 (1246), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 8, 2008 Big beer! Pours almost opaque, almost black, small brown head. Nose of chocolate and malts. No surprise, taste of chocolate and malts. Hops present but not as strong a contribution to the flavor or balance as in Storm King or Bell’s Expedition. Solid, enjoyable beer.
